Harleston Magpies 7 – 0 Dereham
Magpies made a good start to the new season with a comfortable 7-0 win against Dereham. Unlike much of last season, Magpies started the game well and scored when Jack Newbery slotted in at the far post after great work by Kieran Peters and Trsitan Hipper down the right side of the pitch. Harry Haigh then poached a second and well struck goals from Kieran and Jack Frere-Smith from short-corners saw Magpies 4-0 up at the interval.
The game was a little more open in the second half with Sol Barker in goal having to make a couple of saves but, generally, Magpies remained in charge and underlined their superiority with three more goals. Harry Haigh scored twice more to complete his hat-trick on his debut and Jack Newbery scored a second. Jonty Herschel-Shorland had a great game at left midfield with Jack Norton, Rob Scott, Tom Goodge & Harry Murton performing well in defence and Jack Cullis making strong contributions at right midfield. A good performance setting up the side for next week’s trip to Cromer to play North Walsham.
