LADIES 1ST TEAM PREVIEW 30TH MARCH 2019

Harleston Magpies Ladies sponsored by Musker McIntyre Estate Agents are at home this Saturday in their final League game of the season against Southgate at the revised start time of 2.00pm.
Southgate are in 9th position and have had a difficult season with just two wins and one draw. However we had a testing match down at Southgate earlier in the season so Magpies need to be at their best.
Magpies are in 5th position on 28 points and still have a chance of finishing 4th. Sevenoaks are currently in 4th position on the same number of points, but with a better goal difference. There is still everything to play for as Sevenoaks have a tricky away fixture at Horsham. Magpies also need to finish the season on a high with a home win in front of their own supporters to complete a good season.
Last week we lost away 3-2 to St Albans. After going 2-0 down Magpies put together a great fight back in the second half to level the scores at 2-2 with two goals from Rose Winter. Unfortunately we allowed St Albans to snatch a late winner which was very disappointing.
Whatever happens on Saturday Magpies have completed their target for the season as finishing in the top six ensures them promotion to Division 1 North or Division 1 South in the revised National League structure for next season.
This week sees the return of Lottie Summers and in addition Magpies have called up 15 years old Georgie Gardens.

SQUAD:

Lauren Barber (capt), Lizzie Clymer, Jade Daly, Katrina Sitch, Louisa Greenacre, Georgie Gardens, Debbie Francis, Frances Burrell, Charlotte Harrison, Lauren Rowe, Emma Lee-Smith, Georgie Cantrell,  Rose Winter, Lara Taylor, Kristine Ayling and Lottie Summers.

LADIES 1ST REAM PREVIEW 23RD MARCH 2019

Harleston Magpies Ladies sponsored by Musker McIntyre Estate Agents are away this Saturday  against St Albans starting at 1.00pm.
Currently Magpies are 5th in the League on 28 points whilst St Albans are in 6th place on 20 points.
St Albans are in good form having won their last two matches beating Southgate away 2-0 and Bedford at home 4-2. They will be very motivated to beat Magpies this Saturday as they try to secure a 6th place finish and ensure their place in either Division 1 North or Division 1 South next season under the new National League structure for next season.
Magpies have already achieved that objective but will need to get over their 6-0 away defeat last weekend against a very impressive Wimbledon. Wimbledon were 2-0 up early on and 4-0 up by half time. Magpies did well to battle it out in the second half against a very strong side boasting three internationals.
Magpies have two games left with a final game of the season at home the following week against Southgate.

SQUAD:
Lauren Barber (capt), Lizzie Clymer, Jade Daly, Katrina Sitch, Louisa Greenacre, Katherine Ridley, Debbie Francis, Frances Burrell, Charlotte Harrison, Lauren Rowe, Emma Lee-Smith, Georgie Cantrell,  Rose Winter, Lara Taylor and Kristine Ayling.

LADIES 1ST TEAM PREVIEW 16TH MARCH 2019

Harleston Magpies Ladies sponsored by Musker McIntyre Estate Agents are away this Saturday  against Wimbledon starting at 3.00pm.

This will be one of Magpies toughest games of the season against second placed Wimbledon, who have been scoring goals for fun in the second half of the season. In their last four games they have beaten Horsham 4-0, Sevenoaks 3-0, Cambridge 6-1 and St Albans 4-0. They are the leading goal scorers in the League. Hampstead remain top because they crucially beat Wimbledon in the opening game of the season in September.

Magpies are also in a good form and produced one of their best performances of the season last week beating Sevenoaks at home 4-2. This result saw Magpies move up to 4th place in the League with 28 points, but eight points behind Wimbledon. Magpies will need to replicate the type of performance they produced away against Hampstead a few weeks ago where despite conceding a very early goal managed to stay in the game until quite late, before Hampstead finished 2-0 winners.

Louisa Greenacre returns to the squad but Jess Bloom is still out injured.

SQUAD:

Lauren Barber (capt), Lizzie Clymer, Jade Daly, Katrina Sitch, Louisa Greenacre, Katherine Ridley, Debbie Francis, Frances Burrell, Charlotte Harrison, Lauren Rowe, Emma Lee-Smith, Lottie Summers,  Rose Winter, Lara Taylor and Kristine Ayling.

LADIES 1ST TEAM PREVIEW 9TH MARCH 2019

Harleston Magpies Ladies sponsored by Musker McIntyre Estate Agents are at home this Saturday  against Sevenoaks starting at 1.30pm.

Last week Magpies beat Ipswich 2-0 away in a game they were expected to win and eventually picked up all three points with a work man like performance. Sevenoaks had a more difficult fixture and lost 3-0 at home to second place Wimbledon. Magpies will have that difficult task the following week. At the moment the League table sees Sevenoaks in third place, Cambridge City in fourth place and Magpies in fifth place, all on the same number of points. With home advantage Magpies have a great opportunity to climb the table as long as they can produce a good enough performance.

Sevenoaks have a much superior goal difference to Magpies, but they have not had the kind of season they would initially have expected.

Sixth place and above will see Magpies in Division 1 North or Division 1 South next season in the new National League structure. That position is not yet assured but Magpies have a 9 point gap over the 7th placed team with four games to go. It would be nice to wrap it up this weekend.

This week sees the return of Lara Taylor and Kristine Ayling to the squad.

SQUAD FROM:

Lauren Barber (capt), Lizzie Clymer, Jade Daly, Katrina Sitch, Louisa Greenacre, Katherine Ridley, Debbie Francis, Frances Burrell, Charlotte Harrison, Lauren Rowe, Emma Lee-Smith, Lottie Summers, Georgie Cantrell, Rose Winter, Lara Taylor, Kristine Ayling and Annie Nunn

LADIES 1ST TEAM PREVIEW 2ND MARCH 2019

Harleston Magpies Ladies sponsored by Musker McIntyre Estate Agents are away this Saturday  against Ipswich starting at 2.30pm. Although Ipswich are having a difficult season they had a very good result last week drawing 0-0 away against St Albans, which is not an easy place to go.
Last week Magpies had to work hard for a 1-0 home win against Horsham. It was a very important result as Magpies are in 5th place in the League and that has opened up a six point gap on Bedford in 6th place. These last two home wins against Horsham and Bedford have been crucial in meeting their target of finishing in the top six teams in this League.
Next season the National League will be restructured with a Premier Division and a Division 1 North and Division 1 South. Sixth place and above will guarantee a place in Division 1 next season.
Magpies will be without goalkeeper Megan Brown for the rest of the season after fracturing her wrist, but Jade Daly had an excellent game last week in keeping a clean sheet. Jess Bloom was unavailable last week because of injury and must be a major doubt for this weekend. Lara Taylor and Kristine Ayling are unavailable this week, but Magpies squad has adapted well all season and Lottie Summers, Rose Winter and Georgie Cantrell will join the squad.

SQUAD:
Lauren Barber (capt), Lizzie Clymer, Jade Daly, Katrina Sitch, Louisa Greenacre, Katherine Ridley, Debbie Francis, Frances Burrell, Charlotte Harrison, Lauren Rowe, Emma Lee-Smith, Lottie Summers, Georgie Cantrell, Rose Winter, Sarah Bracey and Annie Nunn.

LADIES 1ST TEAM PREVIEW 23RD FEBRUARY 2019

Harleston Magpies Ladies sponsored by Musker McIntyre Estate Agents are at home this Saturday against Horsham starting at 1.30pm. Horsham are currently 6th in the League four points and one place behind Magpies, which suggests that the teams are closely matched.  In the earlier fixture Magpies drew 2-2 away at Horsham, so they know they are in for a tough match. this match against Horsham has particular significance with both teams pushing hard to make the top six in the League, which will secure a place in Division 1 under the new National League structure for next season. last weekend Horsham beat Southgate at home 3-2.

For Magpies last weekend was very testing with a home game against Bedford. The 4-1 win was important in getting the first points on the board in the second half of the season. On Sunday Magpies played their rearranged game against League leaders Hampstead and Westminster and this is a difficult place to go. Despite going 1-0 down after about 5 minutes magpies produced a tremendous battling performance and finally lost 2-0 with alate second goal.

That tough weekend has left Magpies with number of injury and illness problems. The latest major injury is to Megan Brown who has her wrist in plaster after fracturing it in two places.

SQUAD FROM

Lauren Barber (capt), Lizzie Clymer, Jade Daly, Katrina Sitch,
Louisa Greenacre, Kristina Ayling, Katherine Ridley, Debbie Francis, Francis Burrell, Charlotte Harrison, Lara Taylor, Emma Lee-Smith, Lottie Summers, Georgie Cantrell, Jess Bloom, Lucy Whiting,
Tor Findlay and Annie Nunn

LADIES 1st TEAM PREVIEW 16TH FEBRUARY 2019

Harleston Magpies Ladies sponsored by Musker McIntyre Estate Agents have a double header this weekend. On Saturday Magpies play Bedford at home starting at 1.30pm and on Sunday they play a rearranged game against Hampstead starting at 12.00.
Bedford did very well last weekend drawing away against Sevenoaks 1-1 which is a difficult place to go. On the Sunday they followed that up with a 2-0 home win against Ipswich so they have made an impressive start to the second half of the season.
Last weekend Magpies played Cambridge City away and really struggled in the first half and were 2-0 down at half time. It was a better performance in the second half but lost 3-0. Cambridge moved up to second place after that result.
Hopefully Magpies will be able to return to form on Saturday now that they have a game under their belts. Bedford are just three points behind them so there is everything to play for in this game.
On Sunday Magpies travel to Hampstead for their rearranged game. Hampstead are probably the favourites to win this League so this will be a very challenging match.

Magpies resources will be stretched this weekend so the likely squad for the whole weekend will be:

SQUAD:

Lauren Barber (capt), Megan Brown, Katrina Sitch, Louisa Greenacre, Katherine Ridley, Debbie Francis, Frances Burrell, Charlotte Harrison, Rose Winter, Lara Taylor, Emma Lee-Smith, Lizzie Clymer, Lottie Summers, Georgie Cantrell, Jess Bloom, Sarah Bracey and Kristine Ayling.

LADIES INDOOR DIV 1 SUPER SIXES PREVIEW 12TH/13TH JANUARY 2019

Harleston Magpies Ladies Indoor squad sponsored by Durrants Estate Agents travel to Nottingham University this weekend. Last weekend at Bristol, Magpies recorded three wins and a draw. At the half way stage they are currently in second place on goal difference from Surbiton, but two points behind the leaders Sutton Coldfield, who won all four of their matches. The top two teams will be promoted to the Premier Division, so there is everything to play for and it promises to be an exciting weekend of hockey all round.
On Saturday Magpies play Gloucester City at 13.30 and Reading at 17.30. On Sunday Magpies meet Sevenoaks at 11.00 and League leaders Sutton Coldfield at 17.00 in the final game of the Tournament.
Magpies squad changes slightly from last weekend with Debbie Francis and Annie Nunn joining it, but losing Charlotte Harrison.

Squad: Emma Lee-Smith Player Coach, Lauren Barber (Capt), Megan Brown, Kristine Ayling, Lauren Rowe, Debbie Francis, Sarah Brook, Aoife Lowe-Davies, Lara Taylor and Annie Nunn.

LADIES 1ST TEAM PREVIEW 24TH NOVEMBER 2018

Harleston Magpies Ladies sponsored by Musker McIntyre Estate Agents are at home this Saturday against League leaders Hampstead and Westminster starting at 1.30pm.
This will be Magpies final League match before the Christmas break and the Indoor season. Hampstead and Westminster currently top the League and this will be Magpies toughest match of the season so far. Hampstead won the League last season but failed to successfully negotiate the Play Offs to secure a place in the Premier Division. They will be doubly determined to win the League again.
Magpies will be encouraged by the fact that Hampstead lost 3-2 to Cambridge City a few weeks ago so anything is possible. Magpies are currently 3rd in the League three points behind Hampstead and one point behind second placed Wimbledon. Sevenoaks and Cambridge City are very close behind us.
Last week Magpies drew 2-2 with Horsham away in a very hard match. After the worst possible start of conceding a goal in the first minute Magpies battled back through Emma Lee-Smith to equalise before half time and took the lead on 60 minutes thanks to Lauren Rowe. Unfortunately Horsham equalised with four minutes to go, but although it was disappointing to concede so late it was a fair result.
Injuries have been a feature in recent weeks for Magpies but after this game there will be a chance for every player to recover.

Squad: Lauren Barber (Capt), Megan Brown, Katrina Sitch, Debbie Francis, Fran Burrell, Lara Taylor, Lauren Rowe, Louisa Greenacre, Lizzie Clymer, Tor Findlay, Jess Bloom, Charlotte Harrison,  Emma Lee-Smith, Katherine Ridley and Rose Winter.

LADIES 1ST TEAM PREVIEW 17TH NOVEMBER 2018

Harleston Magpies Ladies sponsored by Musker McIntyre Estate Agents are away this Saturday against Horsham starting at 2.00pm.
Horsham have returned to the National League this season after a brief absence and are currently in 7th place. Last week they had an excellent result drawing 2-2 away against Cambridge City having come back from 2-1 down and the weekend before that they beat Southgate away 3-2. So Horsham are in good form and they will be very difficult to beat on their own patch.
After Magpies setback last week in losing 3-1 at home to St Albans they will have to raise their game considerably in order to get a result at Horsham. Having said that Magpies are still in second place and they would have settled for that at the start of the season and it was their only disappointing performance this season. Hopefully lessons will have been learnt and with the right focus Magpies have the ability to go to testing places like Horsham and get a result.
Injury doubts continue to plague the squad but last week a number of returning players managed the game. The squad will be finalised at the end of the week when the injury situation is a little clearer.

Squad From: Lauren Barber (Capt), Megan Brown, Katrina Sitch, Debbie Francis, Fran Burrell, Lara Taylor, Lauren Rowe, Louisa Greenacre, Lizzie Clymer, Tor Findlay, Lucy Whiting, Jess Bloom, Charlotte Harrison, Charlotte Seaman, Emma Lee-Smith and Annie Nunn.

LADIES 1ST TEAM PREVIEW 10TH NOVEMBER 2018

Harleston Magpies Ladies sponsored by Musker McIntyre Estate Agents are at home this Saturday against St Albans starting at 1.30.

St Albans current form sees them 6th in the League with wins against Southgate and Ipswich. A draw against Horsham and two defeats to Sevenoaks and Hampstead. Matches against St Albans have traditionally been close with both teams having the better of the results when playing at home. Having played St Albans in a preseason friendly both teams will know what to expect from each other, but the onus will be on Magpies to make the most of their home advantage.
After Saturday’s 5-0 home win last week against Ipswich Magpies have gone to the top of the League with a two point gap over second placed Hampstead. This is the best start Magpies have made to a season for 6 years and it is important that they continue their momentum this week against St Albans. Clearly Lauren Rowe is in stunning form having scored all five goals last week and the week before scored both goals against Sevenoaks. Lauren is currently the leading goal scorer in the League with 11 goals, which is an impressive tally.
All these results this season have been achieved against a background of injuries and illnesses which have stretched the squad. This week Rose Winter and Georgie Cantrell will be unavailable because of school commitments, but Louisa Greenacre and Jess Bloom should return to the squad. There are still injury doubts about two players.

Squad From: Lauren Barber (Capt), Megan Brown, Katrina Sitch, Debbie Francis, Fran Burrell, Lara Taylor, Lauren Rowe, Louisa Greenacre, Lizzie Clymer, Tor Findlay, Lucy Whiting, Jess Bloom, Charlotte Harrison, Charlotte Seaman, Emma Lee-Smith and Annie Nunn.

LADIES 1ST TEAM PREVIEW 3RD NOVEMBER 2018

Harleston Magpies Ladies sponsored by Musker McIntyre Estate Agents are at home this Saturday against Ipswich starting at 1.30.

If the 2-0 win against League leaders Cambridge City two weeks ago was a great performance, last weeks 2-1 away win at Sevenoaks was an even better result. Sevenoaks is a very tough place to go and Magpies do not often come away from there with a result. The result is even more remarkable as the squad was short of a number of players due to injury and illness. Despite the loss of a number of key players Magpies were very composed in the first half and took the lead early on when Lauren Rowe scored from a penalty corner. Lauren soon followed this up with a second goal from a corner to lead 2-0. Sevenoaks inevitably came back very strongly and at the end Magpies were hanging on to a 2-1 lead. Had Lauren Rowe’s great goal in the second half not been inexplicably disallowed the finish would have been a lot more comfortable. Last week Charlotte Seaman and Georgie Gardens made their first team League debuts.
Cambridge City are still top of the League on goal difference from Magpies who have the same number of points as them. At the moment all the big teams Wimbledon, Hampstead and Sevenoaks are in 3rd, 4th and 5th position. With Magpies and Cambridge both recording notable wins against the fancied teams last week this may lead to a much tighter League than anybody could have anticipated.
Ipswich have returned to the National League this season and at the moment are finding the going quite tough and they just need a result to get them going. We have to make sure it does not happen on Saturday. Losing last week 1-0 to Southgate in the final seconds of the match is never easy to handle. This week is likely to be a very competitive local derby match and based on the pre season friendly it will be a tight match.

Probable Squad: Lauren Barber (Capt), Jade Daly, Katrina Sitch, Rose Winter, Debbie Francis, Fran Burrell, Lara Taylor, Lauren Rowe, Georgie Cantrell, Lizzie Clymer, Tor Findlay, Rose Winter, Charlotte Harrison, Charlotte Seaman and Annie Nunn.

LADIES 1ST TEAM PREVIEW 3RD NOVEMBER 2018

Harleston Magpies Ladies sponsored by Musker McIntyre Estate Agents are at home this Saturday against Ipswich starting at 1.30.
Magpies after their great performance in beating League leaders Cambridge City at home 2-0 two weeks ago, have followed this up last week with an even better result beating Sevenoaks away 2-1.
Cambridge City are still top of the League on goal difference from Magpies who have the same number of points as them. At the moment all the big teams Wimbledon, Hampstead and Sevenoaks are in 3rd, 4th and 5th position. With Magpies and Cambridge both recording notable wins against the fancied teams this may lead to a much tighter League than anybody could have anticipated.
Ipswich have returned to the National League this season and at the moment are finding the going quite tough and they just need a result to get them going.

LADIES 1ST TEAM PREVIEW 27TH OCTOBER 2018

Harleston Magpies Ladies sponsored by Musker McIntyre Estate Agents are away this Saturday against Sevenoaks starting at 12.00. Magpies after their great result and performance last Sunday beating Cambridge City at home 2-0 have moved up into 3rd place in the League on 9 points. Cambridge City are in second place on the same points (with a superior goal difference) with Hampstead top on 10 points. After three wins and one defeat to Wimbledon at home in a 4-3 thriller Magpies have made a very positive start to the season, but Sevenoaks away will be their hardest test so far.
Sevenoaks away has always been a tough place to go, but Magpies have a much stronger squad this season which is coping well with a number of critical injuries including the loss of Captain Lucy Belsey for the season. Last Sunday the availability of Rose Winter and Lottie Summers who are in the England U18 training squad was a big boost to the group and they played significant roles in the win over Cambridge City.
Sevenoaks are currently in 4th place one point behind Magpies and two weeks ago they drew at home 1-1 against Hampstead, who won this League last season. Last week Sevenoaks drew 1-1 with Wimbledon away who won this League two years ago. So Sevenoaks have performed well against these top sides and these three teams have been the teams to beat these last few seasons.
The result against Cambridge City was very pleasing as it was achieved without three players who would be expected to start most matches. The defence has responded well to the loss of Lucy Belsey with Lauren Barber who has taken over the Captaincy stepping into the defence and making an excellent job of her new role. Coach Clyde Camburn is developing a very competitive team with players able to play in a number of positions to give him the flexibility he needs. This will be the biggest test so far and the belief in the squad is growing all the time.

Probable Squad: Lauren Barber (Capt), Megan Brown, Katrina Sitch, Louisa Greenacre, Debbie Francis, Fran Burrell, Lara Taylor, Lauren Rowe, Georgie Cantrell, Jess Bloom, Lizzie Clymer, Tor Findlay, Rose Winter, Lottie Summers and Annie Nunn.

1ST TEAM PREVIEW 20TH OCTOBER 2018

Harleston Magpies Ladies sponsored by Musker McIntyre Estate Agents are at home this SUNDAY against League leaders Cambridge City starting at 1.30pm.
Cambridge City have beaten Southgate at home 5-0, Ipswich at home 3-0 and Bedford away 3-0. They have maximum points with a number of heavy weight teams close behind them namely Sevenoaks, Hampstead and Wimbledon.
Magpies have also had a very positive start to the season beating Bedford 3-0 away in their opening game. Beating Southgate away last week 3-1 with goals from Lauren Rowe and Lara Taylor 2. In between those two games Magpies had a fantastic match at home against Wimbledon. Two down in the first half but level by half time at 2-2. Magpies stunned Wimbledon by going 3-2 up. Magpies could not quite hang on as Wimbledon scored the winner with four minutes to go.
However Magpies will have learnt that they have the capability to take on the top teams in this League and they will need that same tenacity on Sunday if they are going to get a result against a confident Cambridge City side.
Last week at Southgate Magpies took an early lead after 3 minutes. It was hoped this would settle the team down, but instead Southgate looked the more threatening team in the first half. It was no surprise when Southgate equalised before half time. However two tremendous goals from Lara Taylor at the start of the second half effectively killed the game off.

Squad from: Lauren Barber (Capt), Megan Brown, Katrina Sitch, Louisa Greenacre, Debbie Francis, Fran Burrell, Lara Taylor, Lauren Rowe, Lucy Whiting, Emma Lee-Smith, Jess Bloom, Lizzie Clymer, Tor Findlay, Rose Winter, Lottie Summers, Charlotte Seaman and Annie Nunn.

LADIES 1ST TEAM PREVIEW 13TH OCTOBER 2018

Harleston Magpies Ladies sponsored by Musker McIntyre Estate Agents are away this Saturday at Southgate starting at 2.00pm. Southgate have had a tough start to the season losing their opening two matches 5-0 away to Cambridge City in the opening fixture and 3-0 at home last week to Sevenoaks. Both these matches were against two of the potential top teams in this League so it is difficult to assess the potential strength of Southgate at the moment. They did have a difficult time last season and just survived relegation by winning two play off matches.
Magpies on the other hand have had a very positive start to the season winning their opening match away at Bedford 3-0. Last week we lost 4-3 at home to Wimbledon in a tremendous match against a team who have ambitions to win the League this season. In the first half Wimbledon went into a 2-0 lead and at this point they would have felt very comfortable. However in a 5 minute spell just before half time Magpies levelled the scores from two penalty corners through Lara Taylor and Emma Lee-Smith. This set the match up for an intriguing second half. Magpies struck first through Lauren Rowe to put Magpies 3-2 in front. To be fair to Wimbledon they responded like a top team and put Magpies under pressure levelling the scores with 10 minutes to go. Unfortunately Magpies could not hold on to what would have been an amazing result and conceded the winner with four minutes left to go.
However it will give Magpies the belief that they can take on the top teams and push them all the way. This week they have to make sure they maintain the same attitude if they want to get the result.

1st Team Squad against Southgate: Lauren Barber (Capt), Megan Brown, Katrina Sitch, Louisa Greenacre, Debbie Francis, Fran Burrell, Charlotte Harrison, Lara Taylor, Emily Rash, Lauren Rowe, Lucy Whiting, Emma Lee-Smith, Jess Bloom, Lizzie Clymer and Tor Findlay.

LADIES 1ST TEAM PREVIEW 6TH OCTOBER 2018

Harleston Magpies Ladies sponsored by Musker McIntyre Estate Agents are at home this Saturday against Wimbledon starting at 1.30pm. This will be one of our toughest games of the season as Wimbledon came 2nd last season and won the League the season before narrowly missing out in the play offs to qualify for the Premier Division. Both Wimbledon and Hampstead and Westminster were the top two teams last season and ironically they met in the opening match of the season last week with Hampstead winning 3-0.
Magpies made a tremendous start to the season last week beating Bedford 3-0 away. Over the years this has been a difficult place to go and we drew 1-1 last season. After a sticky start Magpies took the lead through Tor Findlay who managed to hold off the attentions of the Bedford goalkeeper to slip the ball into the goal. Rose Winter made it 2-0 before half time with a cracking cross shot from the right of the circle. From then on Magpies were always in control and Lauren Rowe completed the scoring in the second half with a reverse stick shot. This was a very sold all round team performance.
Last year against Wimbledon we lost 4-0 at home to a very impressive Wimbledon performance. In the return fixture in London Magpies lost 2-1 in a much improved performance and we were always in the game right until the end. Magpies will be looking for that type of performance again on Saturday to push Wimbledon all the way.
Magpies will be without Rose Winter this week but Emily Rash has been called up to make her first team debut.|
1st Team Squad against Wimbledon: Lauren Barber (Capt), Megan Brown, Katrina Sitch, Louisa Greenacre, Debbie Francis, Fran Burrell, Charlotte Harrison, Lara Taylor, Emily Rash, Lauren Rowe, Lucy Whiting, Emma Lee-Smith, Jess Bloom, Lizzie Clymer and Tor Findlay.

LADIES 1ST TEAM PREVIEW – SEASON 2018 – 2019

Ladies 1st  Team 20th  Season in the National League

Harleston Magpies Ladies 1St team start the season on Saturday with an away game against Bedford at 1.30pm. This will be their 20th successive season in the National League, which is an astonishing achievement for a Club with such a rural location and competing with the London Clubs like Wimbledon and Hampstead, who have far greater resources and opportunities to recruit players.
This will be a very important season because of the changes to the National League for the following season. For the season 2019-20 the National League will have a new structure which involves reducing the number of National League teams from 40 to 30. The current structure has a Premier Division and a West, East and North Conference. The following season there will be a Premier Division (10) and a Division 1 North (10) and a Division 1 South (10). This is quite a change. For Magpies to qualify for a Division 1 place they will have to finish in the top 6 of the East Conference this season.
Clyde Camburn returns as Head coach for his third spell and he has had a remarkable record of achievement in his previous spells. This time he has added Annie Nunn, Emma Lee-Smith and Debbie Francis as Assistant coaches to ensure that we utilise the vast experience and knowledge they all have of playing at this level.
On the playing side Annie Nunn has stood down from playing to concentrate on coaching. Charlotte Peet (Tosh) will not be playing in goal this season after many years of playing at this level. Both these players have made a big contribution. We have also lost a number of younger players who have moved on to College and University. Most significantly it looks like Captain Lucy Belsey is out for the season having suffered a terrible shoulder injury in the last 30 seconds of a pre season match at St Albans. Lucy has had an operation during the week and we can only wish her well on her long recovery. The squad will miss her as a Captain and a player. Vice Captain Lauren Barber will step up to lead the team.
Despite this loss the squad looks promising and Megan Brown will take over in goal and we are fortunate that she already has plenty of National League experience. Jess Bloom has returned to the Club after a number of years away playing for Premier League Clubs and that experience should be invaluable. Lara Taylor has joined from Norwich Dragons and has been impressive in pre season. In addition Rose Winter played England U18s last year and both her and Lottie Summers have been selected to train with the England U18 squad this season, although Lottie is currently recovering from glandular fever. Although too young to play for the 1s Georgie Gardens was also called up to train with England U16 squad. Preparations for the new season have included matches against Framlingham College, Reading, St Albans and Ipswich.

The Ladies 2s were promoted back to the East Premier League and they started the season last week losing 1-0 away to Canterbury 2s in a tight game. This will be a big step up for them but they are more than capable of doing well this season.

1st Team Squad at Bedford: Lauren Barber (Capt), Megan Brown, Katrina Sitch, Louisa Greenacre, Debbie Francis, Fran Burrell, Charlotte Harrison, Lara Taylor, Rose Winter, Lauren Rowe, Lucy Whiting, Emma Lee-Smith, Jess Bloom, Lizzie Clymer and Tor Findlay.

LADIES 1ST TEAM PREVIEW 10TH MARCH 2018

This week Harleston Magpies Ladies 1s, sponsored by Musker McIntrye, welcome Hampstead & Westminster to Weybread in what will be another tough match. Hampstead are sitting top of the table and are currently unbeaten. When Magpies travelled to Hampstead earlier in the season and they were beaten 6-0. Hampstead are a very strong team and hard to play against.

With the bad weather it has been a couple of weeks since the teams last outing in which they lost 2-1 to Cambridge. This was a close game in which the team kept fighting and never gave up, which is what they will be hoping to take into this week.

This week the team welcomes back Katherine Ridley and Emma Lee-Smith.

Squad: Lucy Belsey (Captain), Lauren Barber, Charlotte Peet, Louisa Greenacre, Katrina Sitch, Martha Lawrence, Annie Nunn, Rose Winter, Lottie Summers, Lauren Rowe, Katherine Ridley, Debbie Francis, Lucy Whiting, Charlie Harrison and Emma Lee-Smith.

LADIES 1ST PREVIEW 24TH FEBRUARY 2018

Ladies 1st v Cambridge City

This week Harleston Magpies Ladies 1s, sponsored by Musker McIntrye, welcome Cambridge City to Weybread in what will be another tough match. Cambridge are sitting fourth in the table and when Magpies travelled to Cambridge earlier in the season and were beaten 3-0. This encounter is always close and competitive and the same is sure to happen this weekend.

Last weekend Magpies lost 2-1 to a strong Wimbledon side. This was an encouraging performance for the team and they were very happy that they finish the game so strongly.

This week the team welcomes back Charlie Harrison.

Squad: Lucy Belsey (Captain), Lauren Barber, Charlotte Peet, Louisa Greenacre, Katrina Sitch, Martha Lawrence, Annie Nunn, Rose Winter, Lottie Summers, Lauren Rowe, Abby Gooderham, Debbie Francis, Lucy Whiting, Charlie Harrison and Lizzie Clymer.
