Harleston Magpies Ladies sponsored by Musker McIntyre Estate Agents are away this Saturday against St Albans starting at 1.00pm.
Currently Magpies are 5th in the League on 28 points whilst St Albans are in 6th place on 20 points.
St Albans are in good form having won their last two matches beating Southgate away 2-0 and Bedford at home 4-2. They will be very motivated to beat Magpies this Saturday as they try to secure a 6th place finish and ensure their place in either Division 1 North or Division 1 South next season under the new National League structure for next season.
Magpies have already achieved that objective but will need to get over their 6-0 away defeat last weekend against a very impressive Wimbledon. Wimbledon were 2-0 up early on and 4-0 up by half time. Magpies did well to battle it out in the second half against a very strong side boasting three internationals.
Magpies have two games left with a final game of the season at home the following week against Southgate.
Lauren Barber (capt), Lizzie Clymer, Jade Daly, Katrina Sitch, Louisa Greenacre, Katherine Ridley, Debbie Francis, Frances Burrell, Charlotte Harrison, Lauren Rowe, Emma Lee-Smith, Georgie Cantrell, Rose Winter, Lara Taylor and Kristine Ayling.
Harleston Magpies Ladies sponsored by Musker McIntyre Estate Agents are away this Saturday against Wimbledon starting at 3.00pm.
This will be one of Magpies toughest games of the season against second placed Wimbledon, who have been scoring goals for fun in the second half of the season. In their last four games they have beaten Horsham 4-0, Sevenoaks 3-0, Cambridge 6-1 and St Albans 4-0. They are the leading goal scorers in the League. Hampstead remain top because they crucially beat Wimbledon in the opening game of the season in September.
Magpies are also in a good form and produced one of their best performances of the season last week beating Sevenoaks at home 4-2. This result saw Magpies move up to 4th place in the League with 28 points, but eight points behind Wimbledon. Magpies will need to replicate the type of performance they produced away against Hampstead a few weeks ago where despite conceding a very early goal managed to stay in the game until quite late, before Hampstead finished 2-0 winners.
Louisa Greenacre returns to the squad but Jess Bloom is still out injured.
Lauren Barber (capt), Lizzie Clymer, Jade Daly, Katrina Sitch, Louisa Greenacre, Katherine Ridley, Debbie Francis, Frances Burrell, Charlotte Harrison, Lauren Rowe, Emma Lee-Smith, Lottie Summers, Rose Winter, Lara Taylor and Kristine Ayling.
Harleston Magpies Ladies sponsored by Musker McIntyre Estate Agents are at home this Saturday against Sevenoaks starting at 1.30pm.
Last week Magpies beat Ipswich 2-0 away in a game they were expected to win and eventually picked up all three points with a work man like performance. Sevenoaks had a more difficult fixture and lost 3-0 at home to second place Wimbledon. Magpies will have that difficult task the following week. At the moment the League table sees Sevenoaks in third place, Cambridge City in fourth place and Magpies in fifth place, all on the same number of points. With home advantage Magpies have a great opportunity to climb the table as long as they can produce a good enough performance.
Sevenoaks have a much superior goal difference to Magpies, but they have not had the kind of season they would initially have expected.
Sixth place and above will see Magpies in Division 1 North or Division 1 South next season in the new National League structure. That position is not yet assured but Magpies have a 9 point gap over the 7th placed team with four games to go. It would be nice to wrap it up this weekend.
This week sees the return of Lara Taylor and Kristine Ayling to the squad.
Lauren Barber (capt), Lizzie Clymer, Jade Daly, Katrina Sitch, Louisa Greenacre, Katherine Ridley, Debbie Francis, Frances Burrell, Charlotte Harrison, Lauren Rowe, Emma Lee-Smith, Lottie Summers, Georgie Cantrell, Rose Winter, Lara Taylor, Kristine Ayling and Annie Nunn
Harleston Magpies Ladies sponsored by Musker McIntyre Estate Agents are away this Saturday against Ipswich starting at 2.30pm. Although Ipswich are having a difficult season they had a very good result last week drawing 0-0 away against St Albans, which is not an easy place to go.
Last week Magpies had to work hard for a 1-0 home win against Horsham. It was a very important result as Magpies are in 5th place in the League and that has opened up a six point gap on Bedford in 6th place. These last two home wins against Horsham and Bedford have been crucial in meeting their target of finishing in the top six teams in this League.
Next season the National League will be restructured with a Premier Division and a Division 1 North and Division 1 South. Sixth place and above will guarantee a place in Division 1 next season.
Magpies will be without goalkeeper Megan Brown for the rest of the season after fracturing her wrist, but Jade Daly had an excellent game last week in keeping a clean sheet. Jess Bloom was unavailable last week because of injury and must be a major doubt for this weekend. Lara Taylor and Kristine Ayling are unavailable this week, but Magpies squad has adapted well all season and Lottie Summers, Rose Winter and Georgie Cantrell will join the squad.
Lauren Barber (capt), Lizzie Clymer, Jade Daly, Katrina Sitch, Louisa Greenacre, Katherine Ridley, Debbie Francis, Frances Burrell, Charlotte Harrison, Lauren Rowe, Emma Lee-Smith, Lottie Summers, Georgie Cantrell, Rose Winter, Sarah Bracey and Annie Nunn.
Harleston Magpies Ladies sponsored by Musker McIntyre Estate Agents are at home this Saturday against Horsham starting at 1.30pm. Horsham are currently 6th in the League four points and one place behind Magpies, which suggests that the teams are closely matched. In the earlier fixture Magpies drew 2-2 away at Horsham, so they know they are in for a tough match. this match against Horsham has particular significance with both teams pushing hard to make the top six in the League, which will secure a place in Division 1 under the new National League structure for next season. last weekend Horsham beat Southgate at home 3-2.
For Magpies last weekend was very testing with a home game against Bedford. The 4-1 win was important in getting the first points on the board in the second half of the season. On Sunday Magpies played their rearranged game against League leaders Hampstead and Westminster and this is a difficult place to go. Despite going 1-0 down after about 5 minutes magpies produced a tremendous battling performance and finally lost 2-0 with alate second goal.
That tough weekend has left Magpies with number of injury and illness problems. The latest major injury is to Megan Brown who has her wrist in plaster after fracturing it in two places.
Lauren Barber (capt), Lizzie Clymer, Jade Daly, Katrina Sitch,
Louisa Greenacre, Kristina Ayling, Katherine Ridley, Debbie Francis, Francis Burrell, Charlotte Harrison, Lara Taylor, Emma Lee-Smith, Lottie Summers, Georgie Cantrell, Jess Bloom, Lucy Whiting,
Tor Findlay and Annie Nunn
Harleston Magpies Ladies Indoor squad sponsored by Durrants Estate Agents travel to Nottingham University this weekend. Last weekend at Bristol, Magpies recorded three wins and a draw. At the half way stage they are currently in second place on goal difference from Surbiton, but two points behind the leaders Sutton Coldfield, who won all four of their matches. The top two teams will be promoted to the Premier Division, so there is everything to play for and it promises to be an exciting weekend of hockey all round.
On Saturday Magpies play Gloucester City at 13.30 and Reading at 17.30. On Sunday Magpies meet Sevenoaks at 11.00 and League leaders Sutton Coldfield at 17.00 in the final game of the Tournament.
Magpies squad changes slightly from last weekend with Debbie Francis and Annie Nunn joining it, but losing Charlotte Harrison.
Squad: Emma Lee-Smith Player Coach, Lauren Barber (Capt), Megan Brown, Kristine Ayling, Lauren Rowe, Debbie Francis, Sarah Brook, Aoife Lowe-Davies, Lara Taylor and Annie Nunn.
Harleston Magpies Ladies sponsored by Musker McIntyre Estate Agents are at home this Saturday against St Albans starting at 1.30.
St Albans current form sees them 6th in the League with wins against Southgate and Ipswich. A draw against Horsham and two defeats to Sevenoaks and Hampstead. Matches against St Albans have traditionally been close with both teams having the better of the results when playing at home. Having played St Albans in a preseason friendly both teams will know what to expect from each other, but the onus will be on Magpies to make the most of their home advantage.
After Saturday’s 5-0 home win last week against Ipswich Magpies have gone to the top of the League with a two point gap over second placed Hampstead. This is the best start Magpies have made to a season for 6 years and it is important that they continue their momentum this week against St Albans. Clearly Lauren Rowe is in stunning form having scored all five goals last week and the week before scored both goals against Sevenoaks. Lauren is currently the leading goal scorer in the League with 11 goals, which is an impressive tally.
All these results this season have been achieved against a background of injuries and illnesses which have stretched the squad. This week Rose Winter and Georgie Cantrell will be unavailable because of school commitments, but Louisa Greenacre and Jess Bloom should return to the squad. There are still injury doubts about two players.
Squad From: Lauren Barber (Capt), Megan Brown, Katrina Sitch, Debbie Francis, Fran Burrell, Lara Taylor, Lauren Rowe, Louisa Greenacre, Lizzie Clymer, Tor Findlay, Lucy Whiting, Jess Bloom, Charlotte Harrison, Charlotte Seaman, Emma Lee-Smith and Annie Nunn.
Harleston Magpies Ladies sponsored by Musker McIntyre Estate Agents are at home this Saturday against Ipswich starting at 1.30.
If the 2-0 win against League leaders Cambridge City two weeks ago was a great performance, last weeks 2-1 away win at Sevenoaks was an even better result. Sevenoaks is a very tough place to go and Magpies do not often come away from there with a result. The result is even more remarkable as the squad was short of a number of players due to injury and illness. Despite the loss of a number of key players Magpies were very composed in the first half and took the lead early on when Lauren Rowe scored from a penalty corner. Lauren soon followed this up with a second goal from a corner to lead 2-0. Sevenoaks inevitably came back very strongly and at the end Magpies were hanging on to a 2-1 lead. Had Lauren Rowe’s great goal in the second half not been inexplicably disallowed the finish would have been a lot more comfortable. Last week Charlotte Seaman and Georgie Gardens made their first team League debuts.
Cambridge City are still top of the League on goal difference from Magpies who have the same number of points as them. At the moment all the big teams Wimbledon, Hampstead and Sevenoaks are in 3rd, 4th and 5th position. With Magpies and Cambridge both recording notable wins against the fancied teams last week this may lead to a much tighter League than anybody could have anticipated.
Ipswich have returned to the National League this season and at the moment are finding the going quite tough and they just need a result to get them going. We have to make sure it does not happen on Saturday. Losing last week 1-0 to Southgate in the final seconds of the match is never easy to handle. This week is likely to be a very competitive local derby match and based on the pre season friendly it will be a tight match.
Probable Squad: Lauren Barber (Capt), Jade Daly, Katrina Sitch, Rose Winter, Debbie Francis, Fran Burrell, Lara Taylor, Lauren Rowe, Georgie Cantrell, Lizzie Clymer, Tor Findlay, Rose Winter, Charlotte Harrison, Charlotte Seaman and Annie Nunn.
Harleston Magpies Ladies sponsored by Musker McIntyre Estate Agents are away this Saturday at Southgate starting at 2.00pm. Southgate have had a tough start to the season losing their opening two matches 5-0 away to Cambridge City in the opening fixture and 3-0 at home last week to Sevenoaks. Both these matches were against two of the potential top teams in this League so it is difficult to assess the potential strength of Southgate at the moment. They did have a difficult time last season and just survived relegation by winning two play off matches.
Magpies on the other hand have had a very positive start to the season winning their opening match away at Bedford 3-0. Last week we lost 4-3 at home to Wimbledon in a tremendous match against a team who have ambitions to win the League this season. In the first half Wimbledon went into a 2-0 lead and at this point they would have felt very comfortable. However in a 5 minute spell just before half time Magpies levelled the scores from two penalty corners through Lara Taylor and Emma Lee-Smith. This set the match up for an intriguing second half. Magpies struck first through Lauren Rowe to put Magpies 3-2 in front. To be fair to Wimbledon they responded like a top team and put Magpies under pressure levelling the scores with 10 minutes to go. Unfortunately Magpies could not hold on to what would have been an amazing result and conceded the winner with four minutes left to go.
However it will give Magpies the belief that they can take on the top teams and push them all the way. This week they have to make sure they maintain the same attitude if they want to get the result.
1st Team Squad against Southgate: Lauren Barber (Capt), Megan Brown, Katrina Sitch, Louisa Greenacre, Debbie Francis, Fran Burrell, Charlotte Harrison, Lara Taylor, Emily Rash, Lauren Rowe, Lucy Whiting, Emma Lee-Smith, Jess Bloom, Lizzie Clymer and Tor Findlay.
This week Harleston Magpies Ladies 1s, sponsored by Musker McIntrye, welcome Hampstead & Westminster to Weybread in what will be another tough match. Hampstead are sitting top of the table and are currently unbeaten. When Magpies travelled to Hampstead earlier in the season and they were beaten 6-0. Hampstead are a very strong team and hard to play against.
With the bad weather it has been a couple of weeks since the teams last outing in which they lost 2-1 to Cambridge. This was a close game in which the team kept fighting and never gave up, which is what they will be hoping to take into this week.
This week the team welcomes back Katherine Ridley and Emma Lee-Smith.
Squad: Lucy Belsey (Captain), Lauren Barber, Charlotte Peet, Louisa Greenacre, Katrina Sitch, Martha Lawrence, Annie Nunn, Rose Winter, Lottie Summers, Lauren Rowe, Katherine Ridley, Debbie Francis, Lucy Whiting, Charlie Harrison and Emma Lee-Smith.
Ladies 1st v Cambridge City
This week Harleston Magpies Ladies 1s, sponsored by Musker McIntrye, welcome Cambridge City to Weybread in what will be another tough match. Cambridge are sitting fourth in the table and when Magpies travelled to Cambridge earlier in the season and were beaten 3-0. This encounter is always close and competitive and the same is sure to happen this weekend.
Last weekend Magpies lost 2-1 to a strong Wimbledon side. This was an encouraging performance for the team and they were very happy that they finish the game so strongly.
This week the team welcomes back Charlie Harrison.
Squad: Lucy Belsey (Captain), Lauren Barber, Charlotte Peet, Louisa Greenacre, Katrina Sitch, Martha Lawrence, Annie Nunn, Rose Winter, Lottie Summers, Lauren Rowe, Abby Gooderham, Debbie Francis, Lucy Whiting, Charlie Harrison and Lizzie Clymer.
This week Harleston Magpies Ladies 1s, sponsored by Musker McIntrye, travel to Wimbledon in what will be a very tough match. Wimbledon are sitting in third position in the table and still fighting for the promotion play off place. Magpies know this is going to be a hard match as when Wimbledon made the trip to Weybread earlier in the season, Wimbledon came out 4-0 winners.
Last week’s result against Chelmsford has given the team a bit of confidence in themselves as they proved they can score goals. With six different goal scorers at the weekend it shows the team have plenty of threats in front of goal. Magpies now sit in fifth place in the league, 4 points ahead of Barnes who are sixth.
This week the team welcomes back Abby Gooderham.
Squad: Lucy Belsey (Captain), Lauren Barber, Charlotte Peet, Louisa Greenacre, Katrina Sitch, Martha Lawrence, Annie Nunn, Rose Winter, Lottie Summers, Lauren Rowe, Abby Gooderham, Debbie Francis, Lucy Whiting, Emma Lee-Smith and Lizzie Clymer.
