This season the team will be led by Rob Sorrell as Coach, although he will already know most of the players as he assisted with the coaching last season. Lucy Belsey will continue as Captain with Lauren Barber stepping up to be Vice Captain.

HARLESTON MAGPIES LADIES WEEKEND PREVIEW

Harleston Magpies Ladies 1st team sponsored by Musker McIntyre Estate Agents are at home this Saturday against Cambridge City in their final League game of the season. The match starts at 2.00pm. Unfortunately after two successive away games at Maidenhead and Wimbledon Magpies have no points to show for all their efforts. Wimbledon are a quality side and Magpies played very well in the first half and were unfortunate to have a Lucy Whiting goal disallowed. In the end this proved to be crucial. Magpies struggled to maintain their tempo in the second half and Wimbledon pressure finally saw them take the lead.

This week Cambridge City represent an even tougher match as they currently sit second in the League just four points behind the leaders Slough. Cambridge are having an impressive season and Magpies will have to be at their best if they want three points, but they will have home advantage. In the previous encounter earlier in the season the result finished 2-2 with Cambridge equalising with a late penalty flick. Magpies also need a win if they are going to hold on to 5th place as they are presently level on points with St Albans, whilst Sevenoaks who are one point behind.

Lucy Whiting is unavailable due to work but Magpies are pleased to welcome back Susan Wessels and Abby Gooderham to the squad.

SQUAD FROM:

Lucy Belsey (Capt), Debbie Francis, Charlotte Lee-Smith, Molly Redgrove, Katrina Sitch, Kath Johnson, Lauren Barber, Louisa Greenacre, Emma Lee-Smith, Charlotte Harrison, Maria Andrews, Lauren Mickleburgh, Susan Wessels, Abby Gooderham and Lizzie Clymer.

HARLESTON MAGPIES LADIES WEEKEND PREVIEW

Harleston Magpies Ladies 1st team sponsored by Musker McIntyre Estate Agents are away again this Saturday, but this time against Wimbledon with a start time of 2.00pm. Last weekend the long trip to Maidenhead ended in disappointment after twice coming from behind to level the score at 2-2 Magpies looked marginally the better team. However as the game seemed heading for a draw Magpies conceded a penalty stroke in the last minute which allowed Maidenhead to snatch a late winner.

Wimbledon are in 3rd position in the League and have been in good form since the start of the second half of the season. Last week they drew 1-1 with League leaders Slough. Magpies are also likely to come up against former players Cherry Seaborn and Lizzie Jones. Magpies are presently in 5th position in the League three points behind Wimbledon.

Emma Lee-Smith should return to the squad this week as well as Lauren Mickleburgh, but unfortunately Abby Gooderham is not available.

SQUAD:

Lucy Belsey (Capt), Debbie Francis, Charlotte Lee-Smith, Molly Redgrove, Katrina Sitch, Kath Johnson, Lauren Barber, Louisa Greenacre, Lucy Whiting, Emma Lee-Smith, Charlotte Harrison, Maria Andrews, Lauren Mickleburgh and Lizzie Clymer.

HARLESTON MAGPIES LADIES WEEKEND PREVIEW

Harleston Magpies Ladies 1st team sponsored by Musker McIntyre Estate Agents are away this Saturday against Maidenhead starting at 1.30pm. Last week Magpies made very hard work of beating Ipswich at home allowing them to score a second half equaliser before several late goals gave a flattering score line of 4-1. Ironically it could have been 5-1 as the final whistle went as Abby Gooderham rounded the goalkeeper and put the ball in the goal.

However that win means Magpies continued their good form since Christmas with three wins as well as a draw against League leaders Slough. Magpies remain in 4th position two points behind Cambridge City in second place and Wimbledon in 3rd place.

After a very positive first season in the East Conference Maidenhead are finding the going a lot tougher this season as they are currently in the relegation play off position of 9th. They seem to be scoring goals freely but defensively they have conceded 46 goals. Last season Magpies lost the opening game of the season at Maidenhead which was not helped by arriving late having faced all kinds of traffic jams. Hopefully it will be a smoother journey this time.

Maria Andrews returns to the squad and youngster Tor Findlay has been called up for her first taste of National League hockey.

SQUAD FROM:

Lucy Belsey (Capt), Debbie Francis, Charlotte Lee-Smith, Molly Redgrove, Katrina Sitch, Kath Johnson, Lauren Barber, Louisa Greenacre, Lucy Whiting, Emma Lee-Smith, Charlotte Harrison, Abby Gooderham, Maria Andrews, Tor Findlay and Lizzie Clymer.

HARLESTON MAGPIES LADIES WEEKEND PREVIEW

Harleston Magpies Ladies 1st team sponsored by Musker McIntyre Estate Agents are at home this Saturday against local rivals Ipswich starting at 2.00pm. Last week Magpies continued their good form since the Christmas break with a well deserved away win at St Albans. Magpies left it really late with Lauren Barber scoring in the final minute, but it was nothing less than Magpies deserved. Throughout the match Magpies were the better side and squandered a number of chances including a penalty flick.

This result has seen Magpies climb to 4th in the League just two points behind Wimbledon in 2nd place with four games remaining. Magpies will want to continue this good form when they play Ipswich, who are struggling in a battle against relegation. Regardless of the League positions these matches are usually very closely contested and earlier in the season Magpies ran out 2-1 winners at Ipswich with goals from Emma Lee-Smith and Abby Gooderham.

Last week illness struck a number of the players, but this week sees the return of Captain Lucy Belsey and hopefully all the squad will remain healthy this week.

SQUAD:

Lucy Belsey (Capt), Debbie Francis, Charlotte Lee-Smith, Molly Redgrove, Katrina Sitch, Kath Johnson, Lauren Barber, Louisa Greenacre, Lucy Whiting, Emma Lee-Smith, Susan Wessels, Charlotte Harrison, Abby Gooderham and Lizzie Clymer.

HARLESTON MAGPIES LADIES WEEKEND PREVIEW

Harleston Magpies Ladies 1st team sponsored by Musker McIntyre Estate Agents are away against St Albans this Saturday starting at 1.00pm. Magpies have made a promising start to the second half of the season having drawn 0-0 at home against the League leaders Slough in the previous week and last weekend beating Chelmsford at home 3-0 with goals from Emma Lee-Smith 2 and Lizzie Clymer. In the end this was a clinical win and again the Magpies defence came away with a clean sheet for the second game running.

Despite their win last week Magpies remain in 7th position but just three points behind St Albans who are in third place. This is a huge incentive for Magpies to climb the table with the right result. This is also a good time to play St Albans as they will be without their two Internationals Hannah McLeod and Ellie Watton, who are both away in Australia with the GB squad. Ellie Watton would have been a significant threat as she is the leading goal scorer for St Albans this season.

Abby Gooderham and Molly Redgrove have both been away this week training with the England U18 and U16 squads respectively.

SQUAD:

Lucy Belsey (Capt), Debbie Francis, Charlotte Lee-Smith, Molly Redgrove, Katrina Sitch, Kath Johnson, Lauren Barber, Louisa Greenacre, Lucy Whiting, Emma Lee-Smith, Susan Wessels, Charlotte Harrison, Abby Gooderham and Lizzie Clymer.

HARLESTON MAGPIES LADIES WEEKEND PREVIEW

Harleston Magpies Ladies 1st team sponsored by Musker McIntyre Estate Agents are at home against Chelmsford this Saturday starting at 2.00pm. Last weekend Magpies had a very creditable draw at home against League leaders Slough in a game, where they had the chances to win it and they have now taken four points out of six off the League leaders, which is a very impressive return.

Magpies are currently in 7th place in the League three points ahead of Chelmsford. Magpies need to build on their performance from last week and this time take all three points so they can climb up the League table. Magpies defensive record remains one of the best in the League and after their performances against Slough they know they are capable of beating anybody in this League.

Last week Chelmsford faced a tricky away game against Wimbledon and lost 3-1, so they will be looking to improve on that result. Earlier in the season Magpies lost 2-0 away against Chelmsford in a game where Magpies were on top for a large part of the match, but conceded a crucial goal on the counter attack in the second half, which proved decisive.

Last weekend was Sophie Sunderland’s last game for Magpies as she has now gone travelling in her gap year. Lucy Whiting who was unavailable last weekend returns to the squad.

SQUAD:

Lucy Belsey (Capt), Debbie Francis, Charlotte Lee-Smith, Molly Redgrove, Katrina Sitch, Kath Johnson, Lauren Barber, Louisa Greenacre, Lucy Whiting, Emma Lee-Smith, Susan Wessels, Charlotte Harrison, Abby Gooderham and Lizzie Clymer.

HARLESTON MAGPIES LADIES WEEKEND PREVIEW

Harleston Magpies Ladies 1st team sponsored by Musker McIntyre Estate Agents return to outdoor League action for the first time since November 28th, when they take on League leaders Slough at home on Saturday starting at 2.00pm. Slough seem almost certain to win the League as they have already opened up a comfortable gap on second placed Hampstead and Westminster and are the best team we have seen this season.

Ironically Magpies are the only team to have beaten Slough this season when they beat them 1-0 away. Lizzie Clymer scored in the first minute and from then on Magpies dug in to absorb a lot of pressure and on this occasion their fighting spirit saw them over the line. We can be sure that Slough will not have forgotten this and will be looking to continue their march to the title.

With the 1st team involved in the Indoor National League and youth players in the Junior Indoor National finals preparation time for the start of the outdoor League has been difficult. Magpies did have one useful warm up match away against Cambridge City which they drew 3-3.

Magpies are currently 6th in the League three points off third place and seven points off the relegation play off spot. It is that tight a League.

Molly Redgrove makes her first team League debut and we wish her well.

PROBABLE SQUAD:

Lucy Belsey (Capt), Debbie Francis, Charlotte Lee-Smith, Molly Redgrove, Katrina Sitch, Kath Johnson, Lauren Barber, Louisa Greenacre, Sophie Sunderland, Emma Lee-Smith, Susan Wessels, Charlotte Harrison, Abby Gooderham, Lizzie Clymer and Lauren Mickleburgh.

HARLESTON MAGPIES LADIES WEEKEND PREVIEW

Harleston Magpies Ladies 1st team sponsored by Musker McIntyre Estate Agents are away this Saturday against Sevenoaks starting at 1.30pm. Sevenoaks finished 2nd in the League last season but made a surprisingly poor start to the season losing matches you would normally expect them to win. However they seem to have turned the corner and have won their last three League matches beating Maidenhead at home 3-0, Chelmsford 4-1 away and last week a very good result beating Wimbledon away 1-0. As a result they have moved up to 5th in the League.

Magpies had a very disappointing result last week against a good Westminster and Hampstead side losing 2-1 at home. It was even more disappointing after the high of beating Slough away the previous week. Magpies played well in the first half and were in front 1-0 at half time but were unable to maintain it in the second half. Playing Sevenoaks away has always been a tough match but Magpies will need to find the attitude and desire they had at Slough if they want to get a result.

Kara Kilbourn joins the squad.

SQUAD:

Lucy Belsey (Capt), Debbie Francis, Charlotte Lee-Smith, Katrina Sitch, Kath Johnson, Lauren Barber, Louisa Greenacre, Sophie Sunderland, Emma Lee-Smith, Hattie Sunderland, Charlotte Harrison, Kara Kilbourn, Lizzie Clymer and Lucy Whiting.

HARLESTON MAGPIES LADIES WEEKEND PREVIEW

Harleston Magpies Ladies 1st team sponsored by Musker McIntyre Estate Agents are at home this Saturday against Hampstead and Westminster starting at 2.00pm. Magpies after their stunning away win last week against run away League leaders Slough will need to get their feet back on the ground very quickly. They will need to concentrate on how they can build on that result with three points at home in a very different kind of match.

Magpies have already played Hampstead and Westminster away at the beginning of the season and were very unlucky to concede a goal in the final minute of the match and so lose the game 1-0. However Magpies are in a much better place at the moment with plenty of attacking options in the squad. Abby Gooderham returns to the squad and Player Coach Susan Wessels is available to play her first match of the season. Hampstead are currently in 4th place one point ahead of Magpies in 6th place, so there is every incentive to try and climb up the League.

SQUAD:

Lucy Belsey (Capt), Debbie Francis, Charlotte Lee-Smith, Katrina Sitch, Kath Johnson, Lauren Barber, Louisa Greenacre, Sophie Sunderland, Emma Lee-Smith, Hattie Sunderland, Lizzie Clymer, Susan Wessels, Charlotte Harrison, Abby Gooderham and Lucy Whiting.

HARLESTON MAGPIES LADIES WEEKEND PREVIEW

Harleston Magpies Ladies 1st team sponsored by Musker McIntyre Estate Agents are away this Sunday against League leaders Slough starting at 12.30pm. Last week Magpies were six minutes away from beating 2nd in the table Cambridge City away in a testing encounter. This week Magpies take on the run away League leaders Slough in what promises to be a very challenging encounter. Slough have won every game with the exception of a draw with Wimbledon. Last week they beat Chelmsford 9-0 so Magpies will be under no illusions as to the task in front of them.

Magpies defensive record this season is one of the best in the League and they will need to prove that on Sunday and take what chances come their way if they want to get a result.

Harleston Magpies Men’s 1st team preview

This weekend Harleston host Southgate at Weybread on Sunday 8th November (at 2.00pm) after their half term off. Southgate who were relegated from the Premier division last season have found the going slightly tough in the East conference since September. Southgate currently sit 5th in the table on 12 points, with three wins, three draws and one defeat. Both teams will be familiar with each others style of play having faced each other in a pre-season friendly at St Albans.

Harleston go into the game after their 6-0 defeat at the hands of Teddington. A result that leaves Harleston fighting at the wrong end of the table. Harleston know that they must start well at home to ease the pressure on themselves and a good performance will allow them to build on the positives they took from the Teddington game.

Harleston are still without the injured Matt Riches but do welcome back Stuart Leate from injury for the game.

Squad from: John Livings, Leigh Sitch, Andrew Bedwell, Sam Rowe, Tristan Baynes, Richard Larkin, Stuart Leate, Toby Price, Ben Wright, Rob Kinsella, Tom Ridley, Zaman Akhter, Matt Richardson, Ben Underwood, Andy Hipwell and Archie Winter.

Harleston Magpies Ladies 1st team sponsored by Musker McIntyre Estate Agents are away this Saturday against Cambridge City starting at 12.30pm. Cambridge City who were promoted back into the National League this season after a short absence have made an impressive start and are currently second in the League behind the League leaders Slough, which is the only team that have beaten them. Magpies are in 6th place five points behind them.

Magpies will be encouraged by beating bottom team Maidenhead 6-0 in their last outing having previously been struggling to score goals. Magpies form has been steadily improving after a slow start but this will be a good test to see what progress they have made. Magpies have had to make a few changes to their squad as Lucy Whiting and Abby Gooderham are unavailable and Anna Tighe has been selected to make her first team League debut.

SQUAD:

Lucy Belsey (Capt), Debbie Francis, Charlotte Lee-Smith, Katrina Sitch, Kath Johnson, Lauren Barber, Louisa Greenacre, Sophie Sunderland, Emma Lee-Smith, Hattie Sunderland, Lizzie Clymer, Maria Andrews, Charlotte Harrison and Anna Tighe.

Magpies Ladies Weekend Preview

HARLESTON MAGPIES LADIES WEEKEND PREVIEW

Harleston Magpies Ladies 1st team sponsored by Musker McIntyre Estate Agents are at home this Saturday against Maidenhead starting at 2.00pm. Last week we drew 2-2 at home against Sevenoaks in a game where we felt we created enough chances to win the game, but if you are losing 2-1 with six minutes to go you are happy to take the draw. It was good to see Lucy Whiting and Lizzie Clymer getting their names on the score sheet.

This week both teams really need that win to pull away from the wrong end of the table. Magpies are at least starting to create a lot of chances but we need to turn a few draws into wins. We feel that the team is progressing and this week would be a good time to record our first home win. At the moment we are 6th in the League with just six points.

Maidenhead are currently in 10th place and they picked up their first point last week in a 2-2 home match against Chelmsford. Looking at their results they are scoring plenty of goals but defensively they have been conceding a lot of goals. They have had a tough start to the season and they have already played all the top teams.

SQUAD:

Lucy Belsey (Capt), Debbie Francis, Charlotte Lee-Smith, Katrina Sitch, Kath Johnson, Lauren Barber, Louisa Greenacre, Sophie Sunderland, Lucy Whiting, Emma Lee-Smith, Hattie Sunderland, Lizzie Clymer, Maria Andrews, Charlotte Harrison and Abby Gooderham.

Harleston Magpies Men’s 1st team preview

This weekend Harleston will travel to relegation rivals Teddington. Teddington currently sit on 3 points in the table, 2 points ahead of Harleston. Teddington have picked up their points with 3 draws against Cambridge City, Sevenoaks and Southgate while they have narrowly lost their other fixtures by the odd goal except for the opening day defeat to Richmond. Harleston will know that they will need to keep a close eye on Teddington forward Chris Seddon. Teddington also possess the midfield prowess of ex-Magpie Carl Sitch, again the squad know that he will need to be marked tightly.

Harleston go into the game after their 8-4 defeat by Oxted. In a game of two halves Harleston started the better and found themselves 3-0 up at half time. An early second half goal made it 4-0, this spurred Oxted into life and in a superb comeback Oxted scored 8 unanswered goals to take the win.

Magpies travel to the game welcoming back Andrew Hipwell and Archie Winter from rugby and school commitments respectively. However, the squad are without Stuart Leate and Matt Riches due to the injury, the latter suffered a hairline crack in his shin against Brighton & Hove but played through the pain last weekend.

Squad from: John Livings, Leigh Sitch, Andrew Bedwell, Sam Rowe, Tristan Baynes, Richard Larkin, Toby Price, Ben Wright, Rob Kinsella, Tom Ridley, Zaman Akhter, Matt Richardson, Ben Underwood, Andy Hipwell and Archie Winter.

Harleston Magpies Men’s 1st team preview

This weekend Harleston will travel to Oxted. Harleston go into the game following a disappointing 4-0 defeat to Brighton and Hove. Harleston now go into this game knowing that they need to start converting their chances in order to pick up some vital points.

Oxted have been in free goal scoring form as they crushed Bromley and Beckenham 8-4. Harleston’s defence will need to be in tip top shape to repel the attackers.

Magpies will hope that Stuart Leate and Matt Riches are fully fit following their knocks last weekend. Andy Hipwell is unavailable due to rugby commitments.

Squad from: John Livings, Leigh Sitch, Andrew Bedwell, Sam Rowe, Stuart Leate, Tristan Baynes, Richard Larkin, Matt Riches, Toby Price, Ben Wright, Rob Kinsella, Tom Ridley, Zaman Akhter, Matt Richardson and Ben Underwood.

The squad would like to wish Mike Denham all the best following his harrowing exploits in the Ukraine.

HARLESTON MAGPIES LADIES WEEKEND PREVIEW

Harleston Magpies Ladies 1st team sponsored by Musker McIntyre Estate Agents are at home this Saturday against Sevenoaks starting at 2.00pm. Magpies will need to quickly recover from the disappointment of losing 2-0 away to Chelmsford last weekend. It was probably the best Magpies have played this season in terms of controlling the game and the chances created including hitting the post twice. Unfortunately if you do not take your chances you are always vulnerable to the counter attack.

Sevenoaks who finished 2nd last season have made a surprisingly slow start to the season and have been at the wrong end of the table, but last week they recorded their first win of the season beating Wimbledon 2-1. Magpies have always found Sevenoaks a tough opponent and they will be expecting them to be working their way back to their best form.

For Magpies they have Sevenoaks at home this week and are at home again the following week against Maidenhead. Magpies will need to get points from these games if they are going to move up the table. Magpies should be at full strength this weekend.

SQUAD:

Lucy Belsey (Capt), Debbie Francis, Charlotte Lee-Smith, Katrina Sitch, Kath Johnson, Lauren Barber, Louisa Greenacre, Sophie Sunderland, Lucy Whiting, Emma Lee-Smith, Hattie Sunderland, Lizzie Clymer, Maria Andrews, Charlotte Harrison and Abby Gooderham.

Harleston Magpies Men’s 1st team preview

This weekend Harleston will host Brighton and Hove. Harleston go into the game in good spirits following a narrow 3-1 defeat to table topping Richmond last Sunday. Harleston competed well for long periods of the game and had the Richmond fans worried for most of the second half. In the end Richmond ran out winners converting 3 set piece goals.

Brighton and Hove travel to Harleston sitting two places above the Weybread side in the league. Brighton have picked up two draws against Southgate and Oxted, both at home and have lost their two away games to Cambridge City and Bromley and Beckenham. Although they have started slowly this season Harleston will be fully aware that Brighton finished mid table last season.

Magpies travel to the game welcoming back Andy Hipwell from the nasty head injury he sustained two weeks ago against Sevenoaks. Harleston are also sweating on the availability of dynamic midfielder Matt Richardson. The squad are also without Archie Winter who has school commitments this weekend.

Squad from: John Livings, Leigh Sitch, Andrew Bedwell, Sam Rowe, Stuart Leate, Tristan Baynes, Richard Larkin, Matt Riches, Toby Price, Ben Wright, Rob Kinsella, Tom Ridley, Zaman Akhter, Matt Richardson, Ben Underwood and Andy Hipwell.

HARLESTON MAGPIES LADIES WEEKEND PREVIEW

Harleston Magpies Ladies 1st team sponsored by Musker McIntyre Estate Agents are away this Saturday against Chelmsford starting at 12.00pm. Magpies will be pleased to see the return to the squad this weekend of Kath Johnson, Charlotte Harrison and Abby Gooderham. This will give them much better attacking options. In their absence last week Magpies had to work very hard to come away with a deserved point against a strong St Albans team in a 0-0 draw.

So far this season Magpies and Chelmsford look to be on a par with identical records of one win, two draws and one defeat, although Magpies remain in 6th place one place ahead of Chelmsford thanks to a better goal difference of one. Clearly there is nothing to choose between the teams and both teams will be going for the three points.

Chelmsford’s results so far are:

St Albans 4 Chelmsford 2

Chelmsford 0 Ipswich 0

Chelmsford 1 Wimbledon 1

Hampstead & W 1 Chelmsford 2

Clearly the most impressive result so far for Chelmsford is beating 2nd in the League Hampstead & Westminster 2-1 away. Magpies will be looking to build on a slow but steady start and they now need to turn draws into wins.

SQUAD:

Lucy Belsey (Capt), Debbie Francis, Charlotte Lee-Smith, Katrina Sitch, Kath Johnson, Lauren Barber, Louisa Greenacre, Sophie Sunderland, Lucy Whiting, Emma Lee-Smith, Hattie Sunderland, Lizzie Clymer, Maria Andrews, Charlotte Harrison and Abby Gooderham.

Harleston Magpies Men’s 1st team preview

This weekend Harleston will travel to table topping Richmond on Sunday 4th October who are fresh from their 7-1 defeat of Bromley and Beckenham and remain unbeaten this season.

Richmond boast the midfield prowess of ex England international Mark Pearn. Richmond will look to play through Pearn to build their attacks. Harleston will know that they need to try and limit Pearn’s influence on the game in order to come away with the 3 points.

Harleston go into the game after their 5-2 defeat by Sevenoaks, who, like Richmond are also unbeaten since the start of the season. Harleston started this game slowly and soon found themselves goals down. This is something that the squad know they cannot afford to do against the free scoring Richmond.

Magpies travel to the game welcoming back Andrew Bedwell and Matt Riches from work commitments but are without Mark Wheelhouse and Andy Hipwell the latter not available due to the nasty head injury he received against Sevenoaks.

Squad from: John Livings, Leigh Sitch, Andrew Bedwell, Sam Rowe, Stuart Leate, Tristan Baynes, Richard Larkin, Matt Riches, Toby Price, Ben Wright, Rob Kinsella, Tom Ridley, Zaman Akhter, Matt Richardson, Ben Underwood and Archie Winter.
