GIRLS DEVELOPMENT REPORT 22ND SEPTEMBER 2018

Girls development v Dereham Panthers W 11-0

After the disappointment of a cancelled match last weekend the girl’s development squad got their season off to winning ways with an impressive 11 – 0 win away to Dereham.   It was a good result for this new look team, with many of the girls starting their first season of development hockey.
Amie Hunt opened the scoring, rounding the keeper, after an incisive run into the penalty area onto an Evie Brice pass.  In response Dereham pressed strongly, leaving space for the Magpies forwards to demonstrate their swift counter attacking play, Loulou Ford picking up a brace of goals and Amie Hunt another as the first quarter ended with the ‘Pies 4 nil up.  Dereham were altogether more cautious in a second quarter that featured several mid-field battles.  Kate Ford and Tilly Dodds doing a good job in screening the Magpies defence.  It took clever play along the right wing from first Jessica Smith and then Florence Collins to break the deadlock.  The Dereham defence was drawn across creating precious space down the middle for Amie Hunt to run into. Again she latched onto an accurate pass and scored past the keeper with confidence.  Further pressure at the end of the half then allowed Ellie Bowden to nip in with a fifth for Magpies.
For the second half, being 5 goals up, the development rules are that the adult must come off the pitch, so player-manager Sandra shouted her encouragement from the side-lines.  Dereham switched to all-out attack which kept the defence much busier, Harriet Soper having to cut out several attacks backed up ably by Emma Ford playing in the sweeper role. In attack Evie Brice found space to line up an outstanding shot into the bottom corner of the Dereham goal and quickly scored  a second, meeting a cross from Amie Hunt.  Loulou also scored again with Kate Ford providing the assist.  Both Loulou and Evie got one more each before the close, to complete a comprehensive victory for Magpies.
