Girls U14 v Norwich City (Away (C) D 1-1)
Magpies took a strong U14 side to Norwich City for their first EH Cup pool game expecting a tough game and that is what they got. Right from the off they dominated possession with City not able to gain much of a foothold. Surging runs from midfield from Georgie and Amy created a few half chances but no goals. With 25 minutes gone another swift break from midfield from Georgie who beat a couple of players and then fed Kiera who calmly slotted home, 1-0 Magpies and well deserved. You never dominate all of a game and City broke on occasion forcing three shorties in a row but the back four held firm and so the half finished 1-0 to Magpies.
We agreed at half time that we were working hard as a team and it was going pretty well but we were too narrow and running with the ball a bit too much so that was the aim for the second half. A second goal was always going to be crucial and we tried and tried, Amy hit a post and their keeper made some good saves so when a deflected equaliser from City came with 8 minutes still to go we were made to pay for not being clinical enough. One more half chance before the final whistle for Magpies but not glory finish.
There were positive performances all over the team with one or two being asked to play out of position. There was no shortage of effort from the girls all afternoon but a case of two points lost rather than one point gained probably but we will go into our next group game with Sudbury on Nov 19th knowing what needs to be rectified. Big thanks to John Pope for umpiring.
