GIRLS U12 “A” TEAM REPORT – NORWICH CITY MINIS 26TH JANUARY 2019

Magpies under 12A girls’ team have two strong defensive displays to thank for winning the Norwich City Mini tournament.  As ever they started off relatively slowly, building up team cohesion through the morning.  The first match was a scrappy 2-nil win against Norwich City’s B team, Beth showing her skill in scoring both goals.  Then followed the first of the two defensive performances…by Magpies B, who in the reverse fixture held Norwich City A to a nil-all draw.

The next game against Dragons A was mostly played in and around the Dragons goal.  Magpies scored both their goals from short corners, first through Beth and then Nathalie. A brief period of pressure saw a goal at the other end, again from a short and the match finished 2-1.  Against Norwich C, the girls were at their confident best. Natalie sniped three goals, including an excellent solo effort and Beth scored the other for a 4-nil win.  Magpies A were similarly dominant against Magpies B as Natalie and then Evie rattled in two early goals. This gave the coaches the chance to  sub-off the two regular forwards, Grace S and Evie both went close to increasing the lead but the game finished 2-nil.

Having drawn with Magpies B earlier Norwich A knew they had to beat Magpies A to win the tournament however it was the team in the white that started more aggressively. Beth carried the attack forward and created a number of half chances and a cross from Emily just eluded Evie at the far post.  Natalie was then felled by a ball that struck the side of the ankle and Magpies lost their shape as she was subbed off.  Momentum shifted to Norwich and the defence of Harriet and Daisy had to be at their very best to keep them at bay, Jasmine in goal also had to stretch to kick away a chance that was heading for the corner.  As the pressure mounted Magpies had to defend two short-corners.  Coaching paid dividends though as the organisation in the goal proved a match for the well-rehearsed Norwich penalty routines with the game ending in a nail-biting draw and tournament victory.
