A bright sunny morning was what greeted the U14 B team/development as we traveled to play Ipswich & East Suffolk HC for a 10am push back. We are lucky to have good numbers in the U14 age group and with only one team playing in the EH Championships this was a great opportunity to get those not involved in that to get the gang back together and play age group hockey again. I am very pleased to report that the whole group played extremely well and played the type of hockey they can be proud of and ran out deserved 3-0 winners. Admittedly we did have a tricky first 10 minutes full of the normal nonsense that puts any team under pressure i.e. Not clearing the ball from the back, running into contact and losing it, no width and snail like passing. That said they defended well and from then onwards they got back into the game and dominated the rest of the game bar the odd IES foray that was rebuffed by resolute defending, calm distribution and off they went again.
So in summary, the first 10 wasn’t great but the rest was excellent with all of the girls front back to front showing good simple and effective skills on the ball with some lovely inter passing that combined their willingness to try something different, see that it works and then continue to play in that way and actually get better as the game went on which was the most enjoyable part of the morning. Passing the ball makes any game come alive so really well done girls, excellent work all round from all.
Goals came from Amie H following a mazy run, then Ellen M who cooly slotted home following a classic down the right base line draw the keeper run from Beth G leaving Amie H to score another mazy runner to conclude the scoring. Plenty of other chances and shots on goals from others on a really promising morning.
