GIRLS U16 TEAM REPORT 4TH NOVEMBER 2017

Girls U16 v Felixstowe (Away (L) W 5-0)

On a crisp and clear afternoon the Magpies u16 girls headed east to sample the delights of the seaside in Felixstowe. With a gentle northerly breeze the good sized crowd was hoping that the game would be full of fireworks not only because it was Guy Fawkes night but in the hope that a lively match would keep them warm.

Well once again the Magpies girls did not disappoint with a truly majestic display.

Felixstowe had apparently been doing their homework on our girls and this led to them setting up in a defensive manner working hard thwarting wave after wave of Magpie attacks. The first real chance however went the way of Felixstowe with a counter attack down the Magpies right. This led to a cross and first time shot that was superbly stopped with a diving stick save by Beth low down to her right. Magpies though kept up the pressure with a series of penalty corners which on 20 mins led to the breakthrough. The corner was slipped to the right where Georgie was waiting to strike a powerful shot into the bottom right corner.
Five minutes later it was two, the ball was worked well by Keisha down the left and her cross field ball found Izzy approaching the edge of the D slipping a deflected pass wide where Georgie was waiting firing in from an acute angle.

The second half was one way traffic with good work from all the girls. The defence of Emily, Alice, Bethy and Amelia were totally resolute and Phoebe, Izzy and Bobby were all involved in the build up for the third before Molly calmly slotted past the keeper with a reverse stick slap. Faith who had a commanding performance in defence won a strong tackle firing the ball forward to Emma who found Georgie on the edge of the D this time playing in Mimi who finished superbly. It was 5 with ten minutes to go when another well worked move was finished by Grace who swept the ball in after it had ricocheted off the post.

A true team performance by the Magpies that had some breathtaking passages of plays with some great interchange passing and very patient possession, culminating in a score line that was a true reflection of the game.
