Harleston Magpies Hockey Fest Huge Success!
Harleston Magpies Hockey Club hosted a fantastic Hockey Fest on Saturday 2 September as part of England Hockey’s Hockey Fest 2017 – the prelude to the 2017/2018 hockey season.
Existing Magpies, returning friends a
nd new faces turned out in the warm September sunshine from Under 10’s to Over 60’s to take part in some mixed hockey games for all the family.
James Smith, Magpies Boys Youth Development Officer (pictured – centre) said: ‘We had 140 people down at the club throughout the course of the day. Our Hockey Fest really showcased the best aspects of the sport,
and a great time was had by all the families and friends that came along. We had everything from an exhibition match with the ladies and mens 2nd and 3rd teams, to coaching for people new to hockey from aged 10 to 65, all having a go. It was a great atmosphere.’
Ruby Pottruff, aged 12 (pictured first left on the back row) said: ‘I have been playing hockey for five years, and I love it! It was brilliant to be back after a longsummer break with no hockey at all. I really enjoyed helping the coaches teach some of the children who were new to hockey about the rules, and how to use a stick properly.’
If you are feeling inspired from a summer of sport then hockey and Hockey Fest is a perfect way to join the hockey family where an equal split of men and women play, inclusive of all ages and abilities. Many clubs have a range of generations taking part; hockey really is a family affair.
