Harleston Magpies Ladies 1 preview

HARLESTON MAGPIES LADIES 1ST TEAM WEEKEND PREVIEW

Harleston Magpies Ladies sponsored by Kitchen Sense play Chelmsford at home this Sunday starting at 12.30 in their English Hockey League match. Magpies have recovered from a poor start following the Christmas break to win their last two League games 1-0 at home to Horsham (Cherry Seaborn) and 3-0 away last week at St Albans (Verity Blyth, Angie Wheelhouse and Emily Wilford).

At the moment Magpies are in third place in the League five points behind second placed Sevenoaks and one point ahead of Chelmsford who are in fourth place.

The most pleasing thing about last weeks performance was seeing the team survive a difficult spell in the first half without conceding a goal and then in the second half seeing the forwards open up the St Albans defence to create plenty of chances and score three goals.

Earlier in the season Magpies beat Chelmsford away 2-0 which is probably their best result of the season to date. It was a hard fought match where Magpies had to defend a number of difficult moments in the match and then when their chances came they took them well. The same level of performance and attitude will be required again on Sunday to get a result as Chelmsford are the only team this season to have beaten League leaders Ipswich. Both Chelmsford and Horsham are breathing down Magpies necks so a home win would certainly help them hold on to third place.

SQUAD: Louisa Greenacre (Capt), Lucy Hayman, Lucy Fields, Katrina Warnes, Bryony Lund, Charlotte Harrison, Ellie Bale, Debbie McAllen, Frances Sumner, Emily Wilford, Gemma Jones, Verity Blyth and Angie Wheelhouse
