HARLESTON MAGPIES LADIES 1ST TEAM AGAINST HAMPSTEAD AND WESTMINSTER

HARLESTON MAGPIES LADIES 1ST TEAM AGAINST HAMPSTEAD AND WESTMINSTER

Harleston Magpies ladies, sponsored by Musker McIntyre Estate Agents, played Hampstead and Westminster on Saturday in a tense and dramatic match. Last time the two teams met Magpies came off worse losing 4-1 but this time Magpies were prepared to defend their unbeaten run at home.
With a large crowd cheering the ladies on the team wanted to show how much they have improved over the season with new players such as Rose Winter making her National League debut. The game started quickly with both sides trying to gain momentum, Hampstead had control of the ball but Magpies were dominating the direction of play and within the first ten mintues had two goals under their belt. The first was from a brilliant run up the pitch to gain a short corner and a drag flick by Maria Andrews soared past the goalkeeper. The second, only a minute later was a counter attack by Magpies where the forwards played round Hampstead’s defence and Andrews flicked the ball over the goalkeeper and Elizabeth Clymer tapped it in in mid-air. Hampstead responded with a quick attack, resulting in a short corner. Charlotte Peet made a great diving save to her right-hand side to keep Magpies two goals clear. Magpies played solidly to break down any more threats from the away sides forwards and at the other end the forwards narrowly missed a couple of chances ending the half 2-0.

Hampstead started strongly in the second half and Harleston quickly conceded a short corner. After saving three short corners in a row a deflection caused injury to our centre back and the opposition took advanatage of the situation as Magpies were rearranging their formation. A scrabble in the goalmouth resulted in the ball dribbling over the line making the rest of the game a very tight and tense affair. With Hampstead gaining momentum and confidence a couple of vital decisions went Magpies way and they clung on to their 2-1 victory to earn three vital points to keep them ahead of their opponents in the table. Magpies hope to take this win in to next weeks game against Chelmsford at home at 14:00.
