Harleston Magpies Ladies, sponsored by Musker McIntyre Estate Agents, played Ipswich ladies at home this weekend in front of a large crowd of people supporting the clubs Hockey Fest. The squad was strengthened this weekend with the return of some strong players this allowed Magpies to try some of the ideas that they have been working hard on this pre season.

Magpies got off to a shaky start with some unforced errors allowing Ipswich to gain short corners. After successfully defending these the ladies quickly settled in to their rhythm and started moving the ball smoothly around the pitch. With the forwards working hard upfront it wasn’t long before Lizzie Clymer found a foot in the circle. Maria Andrew’s stepped up to the challenge and took the opportunity hitting the bottom left corner. Magpies continued to put pressure on the Ipswich defence but could not put away another goal in the first half.

The Magpies ladies started strongly in the second half with the midfield players holding the centre and putting pressure on Ipswich higher up the pitch. The defence held together tightly to prevent any counter attacks that Ipswich posed. Meanwhile at the other end the forwards were making the most of the shooting opportunities they created by slotting in 4 more goals bringing the game to a triumphant 5-0 win by the end of full time. Magpies will take this win into next weekend’s Plum tournament and try to build on this success.
