Harleston Magpies Ladies are at home this Saturday against Southgate starting at 12.30. Magpies will be looking for their first points of the season after the disappointment of losing their opening game away against Sevenoaks. However Southgate have proved difficult opponents in the past as Magpies lost to them on three occasions last season. Southgate won a pre season friendly and then won 3-0 at Weybread in the League. The final game last season against Southgate was a much tighter affair as Southgate came out 2-1 winners after Magpies had squandered numerous penalty corners.
With those results in mind Magpies will not be short of motivation. Hopefully Anna Toulson will be fit to play after her injury last week two minutes into the game and Gemma Jones who picked up a knock last week. Although the circumstances last week were particularly frustrating there were plenty of positives last week, with several individual outstanding performances. The defence looked well organised for most of the game, chances were created and being a home game Magpies will be looking to be more assertive going forwards. With the 2nd team match also at home it will provide for more flexibility in terms of the squad.
The early results in this League are difficult to assess with a number of drawn games and both the promoted teams from the Regional Leagues losing. Last season Reading ran away with the League comfortably but this time it might be a lot closer.
Squad from: Louisa Greenacre (Capt), Lucy Hayman, Lucy Fields, Katrina Warnes, Bryony Lund, Debbie McAllen, Frances Sumner, Ellie Bale, Cherry Seaborn, Helen Brook, Gemma Jones, Verity Blyth, Artemis Clark, Anna Toulson and Angie Wheelhouse.
