Ladies 1 weekend preview

Harleston Magpies Ladies 1st team return to English Hockey League action this Saturday in the East Conference when they play a difficult away fixture at Chelmsford starting at 12.00. Last season Magpies were neck and neck with Chelmford most of the season with Magpies finally finishing fourth in the League one place behind Chelmsford.
Following last season goalkeeper Lucy Hyman has retired, although she will continue her involvement with the team in a coaching capacity and hopefully will also be available in the event of an emergency. Charlotte Lee-Smith is welcomed back to the Club and will take over in goal having played for Norwich Dragons last season and prior to that played for Ipswich when they were in the Premier League.
The nucleus of the team is still there from last season and will again be Captained by Louisa Greenacre with Debbie Francis as Vice Captain. Leigh Sitch has taken over as Coach and we wish him well in his first season. The main concern for the team will be the loss of three forwards from last season with Cherry Seaborn going to Durham University, Artemis Clark to Loughborough University  and Angie Wheelhouse, who has been a prolific goal scorer over the years being unavailable as she is pregnant. This will involve changes to the team and opportunities for other players to take their chance and it may take awhile for the team to adjust.
The pre season friendlies have gone well with matches against Northampton, Cambridge City, Barnes/Hounslow and Horsham. The team was unbeaten in pre season but two 0-0 draws in good performances shows that scoring goals will be the area receiving the most attention.
Louisa Greenacre (Capt), Charlotte Lee-Smith, France Sumner, Lucy Fields, Bryony Lund, Katrina Warnes, Debbie Francis, Charlotte Harrison, Ellie Bale, Charlotte Catalano,  Verity Blyth, Jess Howland, Lauren Barber and Jas Bartlett.
