Ladies 1st Team v Chelmsford (Home (L) W 6-1)
This week Harleston Magpies sponsored by Musker McIntyre Estate Agents welcomed Chelmsford to The Nest.
The match commenced with even ball possession with Magpies’ defence holding strong, in particular Katrina Sitch who soaked up a lot of pressure from Chelmsford’s right forward. Magpies began to dominate about ten minutes into the half and took the lead when Lottie Summers won the team’s first short corner, which was dispatched by Louisa Greenacre with a classy strike from the top of the circle.
Lauren Barber made some crucial tackles in the middle of the pitch keeping Magpies on the front foot. Magpies added to their tally in the 24th minute from another short corner, dragged from the top by Lauren Rowe and deflected in by Lucy Whiting. 5 minutes later, after an excellent through ball from Debbie Francis, Martha Lawrence scored after an excellent run into the circle. Soon after Lottie Summers won the team another short corner, which after a 1-2 with Emma Lee-Smith was finished off by Rose Winter.
Emma Lee-Smith maintained a key role for Magpies not only by running the corner routines but dominating through the middle. There was also some exceptional ball carrying from Annie Nunn in the left midfield position.
The Magpies went into the second half confidently with a four goal advantage. After four minutes, Lizzie Clymer rounded two defenders and squared to Lottie Summers on the P-spot who cooly reverse flicked in to take the home team’s tally to five.
The next ten minutes were a lot more end-to-end with Charlotte Peet making some awesome saves in goal, as well as Lucy Belsey providing great cover and motivation for the team. In the 51st minute Lauren Rowe converted another corner for Magpies, flicking an outrageously spacey ball into the top of the goal.
With 19 minutes of the match remaining Chelmsford scored a consolation goal when a counter attack was well finished from the top of the circle.
The match finished 6-1, with another crucial 3 points in the bag. Next week Magpies travel to third placed Wimbledon in what is sure to be a tough contest.
