Ladies 1st v Wimbledon L 3-4

Harleston Magpies sponsored by Musker McIntyre Estate Agents this week welcomed Wimbledon to Weybread in an encounter which the squad knew would be a difficult game, with Wimbledon finishing second in the league last season.
The game started at a high intensity set by Wimbledon which Magpies struggled to adjust to. After 15 minutes Magpies found themselves 2-0 down after some slick passing moves from Wimbledon.
Magpies finally started to settle into the game and after winning a few short corners, one was converted when Emma Lee-Smith struck from the top of the D and Lara Taylor made sure it was going in on the post.
This gave Magpies the belief that they could get something out of the game and they continued to attack. With this came more short corners and after Emma Lee-Smith struck another ball, it took a deflection off a Wimbledon player and beat the keeper to level the scores at 2-2 going into half-time.
The game was pretty even in the second half with both teams attacking and creating chances but the defences standing strong. It was Magpies however that took the lead after a long ball found Lauren Rowe on the baseline in which she managed to carry it towards goal and beat the goalie with her reverse stick.
Wimbledon then stepped up the pressure on Magpies in which Magpies continued to defend well and keep them out, but after some continued pressure Magpies conceded a corner and Wimbledon then converted.
Shortly after Magpies conceded another corner which unfortunately took a deflection off a Magpies defender and found the back of the net.
|It was a disappointing result for Magpies having fought back from 2 down to take the lead before having it snatched away.  Despite the score line it was a very competitive game in which Magpies proved that they are capable of competing with any team in the league.
Next week Magpies travel to Southgate who will be keen to get some points on the board having been unsuccessful in their opening two fixtures.
