LADIES 2ND TEAM REPORT 17TH NOVEMBER 2018

Ladies 2nd Team v Bromley & Beckenham 1  L 0-5

On a beautiful blue sky Norfolk day, Magpies welcomed Brom-Beck to the Nest in their latest EWL Premier League Game.  The game started at a high tempo with both teams trying to settle into their own respective styles of play.. The visitors struck early from close range and soon added a second to leave us 2 down with only 12 minutes on the clock. A change in our formation allowed us to get more of a foothold in the game as we started to catch the visitors on the break. A couple of promising breaks were only let down by us not picking the final pass to leave a clear run in on goal. Although the away team were looking a threat, we then began to ask some questions of the BB defence.. We were denied from a penalty corner by a brilliant low save by their keeper and likewise crosses were flashing across the D just waiting for a finishing touch. Sadly just before the break the away side bagged a third to leave the Pies with a mountain to climb at half time.
To be fair we made a spirited start to the second half as we pressed the away side and started to win the 50 / 50 battles as we enjoyed our best spell of the match. Once again we were denied by the keeper in a one on one battle as we tried to sneak the goal that would get us back in the game. BB weathered the storm and grabbed a couple more close range goals from well worked penalty corners. We lost Shev Steggles to a nasty head injury after she put her body on the line to deny a strike at goal.  To our credit we kept pushing forward right to the end and we did find the net but it was rightly chalked off as a PC had already been given.
On the face of it, a 5.0 Nill home defeat looks like a very bad day at the office but we can take a number of positives from the display.. As mentioned previously, this is a tough division and our opposition today were the best side we have seen down at the Nest this year. We will box this defeat and eagerly look forward to next weeks local derby away at Norwich.
