After last years brilliant season, this season brings a step up to the East Premier League for the Ladies 2’s and the Magpies made the short trip to Taverham for their 1st pre-season game against a strong looking Norwich City squad. Pies started the game on the front foot winning most of the 50 50 battles all over the pitch and not allowing the home side to settle into their patient passing game.. This positive approach allowed us to keep the home defence on their toes as well as forcing the home keeper into a couple of decent saves from penalty corners. This drew a reaction from City who had a strong period of pressure before halftime when they also looked dangerous in and around the D but the hard working Pies managed to see off the threat to go into half-time on level terms. The second half began with Pies out of the blocks early and duly went a goal up when a well worked penalty corner allowed Bobbi to nett from close range. Norwich began to rotate their squad trying to find a way back into the game and duly had their strongest period of dominance in the game.. Despite excellent defensive work all over the field, a well worked move down the right gave City the chance to level the scores 12 minutes into the second half. However, this drew an immediate response from the team and after good work down the right, the ball was fed into Anouska at the top of the D who sent the ball crashing into the net with a sweet strike. The remainder of the game was closely contested with City looking to get back on terms whilst Magpies always looked dangerous on the break. Both teams created chances in the final stages of the match but we managed to bag a solid away win. A spirited hard working skilful display from the 12 Magpies on show gave us a well deserved first victory of the season.
