Ladies 2’s defeated at Bury
Magpies Ladies 2’s lost for only the second time this season to third place Bury in a very tense encounter played under lights at Culford School.
Bury to their credit were the better team in the first half and although having the majority of possession, Magpies defence stood firm preventing a single shot on target. Holly Baker intercepted numerous Bury attacks and Katherine Ridley’s aggressive distribution enabled Magpies to thwart a determined Bury team. It was against the run of play midway through the half when Kira Wooltorton intercepted a pass, broke through the middle before releasing the perfect pass to the prolific Hipperson who’s excellent strike gave Magpies a rather fortunate interval lead.
Magpies stepped up their game after the break and were now dictating play. Lizzie Clymer and Wooltorton were creating numerous opportunities down the right but as in the first half Bury broke against the run of play and equalised when Magpies were left short at the back.
Both teams now searched for the winner and with 10 minutes remaining Magpies failed to clear a short corner and Bury scrambled home what proved to be the winner.
Magpies having already clinched promotion to the East Premier will now have to rely on Ipswich 2’s dropping points to win the league.
Magpies finish their season on Sat 6th April v Long Sutton away.
