LADIES 4TH TEAM REPORT 26TH JANUARY 2019

Ladies 4th Team v Norwich City 3rds W 1-0

Magpies ladies 4’s travelled to 2nd in the league Norwich City 3’s who had only lost 2 games this season, this was going to be a tough game but the 4’s who are raising the bar for their own level of performances and are growing in confidence each week arrived at Taverham looking to take all 3 points. Magpies were without injured Honey so Alice E H started at right midfield and we soon began to play the ball out wide and create goal scoring opportunities in the City D. Sophie M A managed to attack down the right and push forward from full back position to deliver several crosses that the magpies forwards of Millie Preece and Cassie Ayms just failed to get the important goal bound touch. The match was being played at a furious pace and both teams created early chances. Abi Lewis in the Magpies goal made 2 very good early saves to keep the score 0-0. Centre backs Catherine Kilbourn and Sophie Baxter looked comfortable and looked assured along side each other.  On 20 mins magpies forwards constant pressure made City concede a long corner, Emily Woollatt found Katie Woollatt on the edge of the D and she fired the ball in to the D where Cassie Ayms timed her run perfectly to deflect to ball into the city goal to give us a 0-1 lead.  Magpies continued to look a threat and Victoria Spouncer looked assured at left back, attacking down the left flank and linking up well with Grace Collison who worked extremely hard closing the Norwich players down and putting in a good display.   Millie Preece weaved her magic into the City D but unfortunately couldn’t find the net, a fiercely hit reverse hit just flew over the bar.
The 2nd half started with Norwich City putting pressure on magpies goal and again Abi thwarted the city forwards with fine saves. Catherine Kilbourn was dominant in defence and Katie Woollatt was having and excellent game in Centre midfield winning the midfield battle and allowing Emily Woollatt to thread probing balls through to Alice E H who worked tirelessly pressing the city defence.  Keira Wheeler made good runs from midfield and Imi Ramsdale was unfortunate not to score when her shot hit the city post. Norwich weren’t giving in and we’re playing like a team that was 2nd in the league , but magpies were not intimidated and raised their own game,  magpies had a short corner which Catherine’s shot was saved on the line and Emily followed up only to see her shot also cleared off the line.  Magpies fully deserved this 0-1 win, credit goes to all the players who worked extremely hard and are looking stronger each week . Next week we are at home to Broadland 2’s.
Player of match Katie Woollatt.
