Ladies 4th Team v Loddon (Home (L) W 2-1)
After a motivational team talk we decided to treat the second half of the season as a clean slate, having failed to even draw a game before Christmas. With fire in our bellies and fantastic runs with the ball down each wing by Rachel Goodson and Alice Evans Hendricks, the first goal came from Julie Davy who used her reverse stick to deflect Janna Freeman’s short corner strike into the net.
We maintained attacking momentum and played some lovely passing hockey which led to Magpies’ second goal, neat passing between sisters Sophie and Imogen Maynell Anderson allowed Imogen the opportunity to flick the ball past the Loddon ‘keeper.
Loddon pulled one back in the second half, thanks to some rusty defending from Rosie Blackmore, which fired them up. We lost Captain Sophie to a head injury and fell back into our default mode of ‘hit and hope’ hockey which didn’t look very pretty but a combination of well timed tackles from Treacle, Emily Woollatt and Krystal Jenkins at the back, together with some fab saves from Grace Robinson in goal meant we clung on for our first win, and first points of the season.
