LADIES 5TH TEAM REPORT 24TH NOVEMBER 2018

Ladies 5th Team Norwich City 5 W 3-1

What a difference a week makes!  Norwich were going to provide a sterner test being one place above Magpies in the league.   After last weeks lethargic start Magpies started brightly keeping pressure on Norwich in the attacking half.  Some early short corners were well saved by the Norwich keeper.  The deadlock was eventually broken by Fi Brice with a clean penalty corner strike inside the left post.  This seemed to give Magpies more impetus.  The midfield of Alyssa, Fi, Jess and Talitha were working very hard getting early ball to the forwards.  Norwich almost caught Magpies out when all the defence strayed a bit high up the pitch but Katy Davy thwarted the Norwich attack.  Norwich worked their way back into the game and equalised before half time.
With the home crowd starting to swell and cheer the girls on, Magpies put on a good second half display.  The ball pace improved and the players moved the ball early, some strong runs from Jess and Alyssa set Ella on her way who calmly rounded the keeper and put magpies in the lead again.  Meanwhile Magpies left defender Mimi Slade was having her best game of the season, tackling hard and distributing well.
Jose Tibbenham gave magpies some breathing space when a defender fumbled a clearance and slipping the ball past the keeper.  Davy in the Magpies goal made a couple more cracking saves to keep Norwich at bay.
A hard fought win pushing Magpies up to 3rd in the table and setting the standard for the next two weeks against 2nd placed Carrow and top placed Diss.  Player of the Match Mimi Slade
