Ladies 6th v Broadland 3rds (Home (L) W 1-0)
Magpies start the match determined to improve upon the previous encounter that they lost 5:0. Advice from training to keep communication high, support each other and set the press really quickly we’re soon evident early in the match. Broadland tried to play the long ball game but increasingly found it difficult to find a clear route through the excellent Magpies press. Lydia Barrett and Jenny Meyer upfront worked hard to keep the ball live and pressuring the opposition D. Good passing play leading to a few short corners that were well saved by Broadland. Our midfield of Louise Davy and Marnie Blair worked hard to keep a high pace to the game and gave great support to the excellent Lucy Field (whom it was fantastic to see making her return from injury). Combined work from forwards Laura Woodgate and Rach Clifford put Broadlands under increasing pressure eventually meaning the 6s went into half time 1:0 up.
Second half Magpies knew they would have to work hard if they were to hold on to their lead. Fantastic tackles from Jane Collins and Marie Davy broke down several Broadland attacks with Katie Davy on fine form in the Magpies D clearing the ball effectively to Elena Flatt who made sure the ball was safely away.
This was an excellent, enjoyable match with great play from both teams. The 6s look to take confidence from this game into what will inevitably be a very tough match next week against table topping Railway.
