In their away coloured green strip the 6s started their match against Dereham with a positive frame of mind. The team passed the ball well between each other piling the pressure onto the home side. The team were pleased to welcome back captain Flea Perry who played with her usual energy ensuring Magpies pressed high up the pitch. Georgie Hood and Janna Freeman made excellent leads forcing the Dereham players out of position and creating good space for Rach Clifford to score her first goal. Dereham worked hard to come back into the game, making some forceful runs only to be thwarted by great tackling from Jane Collins, Marie Davy and Frankie Wildmun. Returning player Kristina Brinkley worked hard in midfield making good interceptions and finding the forwards with decisive passes. A period of constant pressure from Magpies resulted in a good goal for Laura Woodgate. Right at the end of the first half Rach Clifford scored her second goal from a first time strike in a short corner. Second half Dereham came out fighting and were rewarded with a well taken goal. This stunned Magpies back into action, the team finding their passing rhythm and pulling Dereham away from the centre of the pitch and enabling Rach Clifford to get her 3rd goal. Having 15 players meant Magpies occasionally lost their shape a little. Dereham managed to capitalise on one such time to grab a late second goal. A 2:4 win for Magpies and a fourth win of the season is an excellent testament to the work put in by the 6s squad, not just in terms of improving their skills in training but also with gelling as team. This week Magpies even had extra cake in honour of Liv’s 16th Birthday. Player of the match: Rachael Clifford.
