Ladies 6th v Lowestoft Railway 2nds ( Home (L) W 1-0)
In the first of two slip weeks, the Magpies 6ths played Lowestoft Railway 2nds at home this week. A gloriously sunny February morning in Harleston, and a pre-game pep talk from Captain, Heather Brand reiterated a now almost legendary motto of the 6ths – Go out there, give it everything, set the press and have fun.
Taking to the field against the top of the league team, who beat us 10-1 in the previous half of the season the tensions were high. There was a lot to play for, we had something to prove.
The 6ths started strongly and the links built over the last few months were on show, when in the first few minutes the home team set up and scored the first and only goal of the game. Vanessa Vigrass and Lucy Field worked the ball into the D, and the pass in was slotted home by Rachael Clifford.
The Lowestoft Railway team were frustrated by the early goal, and the confident attacking play. This bolstered the confidence of the home team, who’s defence (Jane Collins, Heather Brand, Felicity Perry, Lucy Basey-Fisher and Marie Davy) were cool, calm and collected. Clearing the ball with ease, and shutting down opportunities for the away team to attack the D.
