Ladies 6th Team v Herlings (Away (L) L 0-3)

Following another cancelled game last week, the Magpies 6ths travelled to East Harling for the one and only grass fixture of the year. Many of the younger members of the team were unsure about playing on grass, so we had a few minutes in the changing room discussing the various changes to tactics that might help us during the game.
Even with this rousing team talk, the team were slightly hesitant to take to the pitch. The weather started to worsen, a constant drizzle turning into a more sustained rainfall. But with our now trademark aptitude to make the best of the situation, we took to the field with enthusiasm and determination to give this our best effort.
The first half was a balanced affair with magpies making good gains into the oppositions half, but squandering a couple of chances on goal. The Herlings responded and scored a clean goal from a smooth attacking move. Magpies rallied hard to keep the score at 1-0 in the first half despite the home team looking much more at home on the grass.
In the second half te weather took a turn for the worse, and with many of the magpies wearing astro shoes the slippery surface made any change of direction difficult. Herlings looked more confident, and two goals slipped past the Magpies defence.
I think everyone was relieved when the final whistle blew and despite the score line the Magpies had put in a valiant performance in less than ideal conditions. Vanessa scooped another player of the match award, well deserved as always for her tireless running and expansive play.
