Ladies 7th Team v Dereham 5 (Away (L) L 0-1)
With a late start and just nine players, including one who hadn’t played for over ten years, we started the game with some trepidation. However, Dereham with their full team, far from keeping the ball, had their work cut out trying to keep possession. Time and again, the ball flew to the Dereham circle to our great delight. Newcomer, Victoria Brock really threw herself into the game and our defenders were solid. However, with minutes to go before halftime, Dereham scored.
Skipper, Daphne Beckett, was impressed with everyone’s play and we started the second half in high spirits. It got darker and despite the floodlights, the yellow ball seemed to blend in with the faded pitch. Louise Davy was struck across the throat during a tackle and fell to the ground. She bravely got up and carried on. Towards the end of the game we had a series of short corners but despite shots at goal just couldn’t equalise and then the whistle went.
