Magpies Return In Good Heart
Magpies returned home from their trip to Kent pointless but in good heart following a spirited performance. Holcombe containing six full internationals, were the better side for most periods of the game and certainly played a style of hockey suited to their home pitch surface. Holcombe ‘s play warranted their fourth position in the league table and on the day Magpies made too many errors at the back, and their finishing was not sharp enough.
Other results last weekend went according to form but the suprise of the day was a 3-2 victory which Chelmsford achieved against Indian Gymkhana. The Essex side who were soundly beaten by Magpies earlier in the season had only secured one point in the first half of the season. This result helps Magpies cause but makes this weekend’s game against Chelmsford at Weybread on Sunday push back 2.15 even more crucial. Magpies should be confident of securing the points to help consolidate their mid table position, but must not be complacent against a Chelmsford side who must have taken heart from their recent win.
Whilst Mark Wheelhouse is unavailable this weekend due to work commitments, vice captain David Ling makes a welcome return following suspension. Simon Hipwell, Craig Snelling and Ben Wright all took part in the Holcombe game with the latter two making their national league debuts. The experience will have given them confidence for future games.
