Magpies Return Home Full of Confidence
Magpies felt a trifle unlucky when they returned from recently relegated Southgate with a narrow 1-0 loss. Once again Magpies showed their ability to play at this level with all members of the squad putting in good performances. Although Southgate had had a longer pre-season training it was Magpies whose fitness lasted the best and they put pressure on the home defence in the last ten minutes in an effort to secure an equaliser. The home side’s South African International goalkeeper had a great game and it was the home side who were happy to hear the final whistle. Magpies were left to reflect on what might have been.
This week Magpies take on Holcombe at home on Saturday 2.15 p.m. the visitors have won one and lost one, a loss to league leaders Canterbury and a win against Indian Gymkhana. These results would indicate a side who could be beaten, however the Magpies defence which has been in fine form, must not give away corners where the visitor’s corner specialist poses a threat. Whilst this game is on a Saturday and the crowd will not match the 200 plus who attended the opening game it is hoped the spectators will provide the boost which they obviously did against Sevenoaks.
Pete Bale is unavailable through work and a second team player fresh from their opening win against Pelicans will step up to complete the squad. The compliment of sixteen players are being used to the full and so the additional player has a part to play. The side will be selected from:
Richard Harms;Tom Sumner;Gareth Furlong;Mark Wheelhouse;Leigh Sitch;David Ling; Richard Gill;Andy Hipwell;Tristan Baynes;Ben Gowing;Tom Dunnett;Stuart Leate;Richard Ling;Neil Toulson;Duncan Graves;James Fanger;Duncan Scott;Matt Stainthorpe;Ben Wright;Simon Hipwell
