Match report – Harleston Magpies Ladies II

Cambridge City II 2 Ladies Magpies II 1

Magpies started well, barely seeing the ball in their own half. The combination of Lucy Cubbock, Lauren Barber & Rachel Goodson on the right, played some great hockey & worked the ball well, providing some promising crosses into the D, with Jaz Bartlett working hard to get on the end. Although Magpies had endless possession, Cambridge hit them on the brea and a lack of tackle, meant the ball trickled over the line,
leaving Cali Clarke helpless in goal. The second goal come in a similar fashion with a lack of solid tackling & poor marking resulting in the ball ending in the net despite some solid stops from Cali that were failed to be cleared. Magpies nearly pulled a goal back from Lauren Mickleburgh’s shot that was unfortunately above the back board on a short corner.

Second half was started brightly & some rearranging in positions provided an encouraging start. Eilbhe Wheelan and Mickleburgh continued the pressure well on the left hand side. CC dominated the middle, breaking down any potential Cambridge attacks.

Magpies goal came from a well rehearsed short corner routine with Jessie Withers neatly & calming flicking the ball over the keeper for a well deserved goal.
