Match report – Ladies’ 1sts Indoor – Sunday 18 December 2016

The Ladies Indoor team, sponsored by Durrants Estate Agents, began preparations for their indoor campaign in the England Hockey Super 6’s Championships in January with two warm-up games at the East Championships at Kelsey Kerridge Sports Centre in Cambridge on Sunday 18th December.

The team once again welcomed back Sarah Brook from university and were also joined by Tor Findlay and Lauren Rowe making their 1st team indoor debuts the day after their success in the Under 18 East Championships.

Magpies started slowly against St Albans, taking time to adapt to the pace of the indoor game and conceded an early goal. The game was

close throughout with both teams creating clear chances in open play. Magpies converted two penalty corners (Sarah Brook and Lauren Rowe) but were unable to prevent St Albans converting two further chances to win the game 3-2.

Magpies started the second game against Chelmsford with more control and confidence on the ball. Sarah Brook put the team ahead after being set up by some skilful work on the right from Lauren Rowe. The second goal came from a strong run out of defence from Bryony Lund who found Lizzie Clymer in the circle who calmly beat the keeper. The third came before half time when Annie Nunn won the ball in midfield and set up Lizzie for her second of the game.

The team’s final goal came from a powerful penalty corner flick from Maria Andrews. Chelmsford pulled two goals back before the final whistle to give Magpies a 4-2 victory.

St Albans also beat Chelmsford to win the championship.
