Empresa Norfolk League Division One
Harleston Magpies 5ths 2 Reepham 1
Magpies Ladies 5th team turned the form book on its head beating league leaders Reepham whose loss meant they dropped to 3rd in division one and Magpies moved up to 5th place.
Magpies were out of the starting blocks early and had the ball
deflecting off the goalkeeper into the Reepham goal in the first few
minutes. Magpies showed true sportsmanship telling the Reepham umpire it was not a goal as no Magpies player had touched the ball inside the D. After discussion the game continued – Reepham were off the hook but Magpies continued to press and didn’t let Reepham settle into their match plan.
Imi Meynell-Anderson was asking many questions of the Reepham left hand side with many strong fast runs resulting in some excellent crosses into the D. Rachael Clifford got on the end of one of these to give Magpies a well-deserved lead at the interval.
Phoebe Eglington and Treacle Griffin were working exceedingly hard in midfield and Reepham were getting more and more frustrated with themselves, though in truth the young Magpies players have improved so much since their 4-0 loss to Reepham earlier in the season they were playing the better hockey and forcing Reepham to make mistakes. Early in the second half a pin point pass from Meynell-Anderson found Jose Tibbenham on the edge of the D, a quick pass from the captain set up Georgie Cantrell who made no mistake with her first time strike.
In the dying minutes Reepham scored a consolation goal but in the end it was a thoroughly deserved win for Magpies. An excellent team performance once again. Phoebe Eglington was voted player of the match by her teammates. Imi Meynell-Anderson got the vote from the opposition.
