Match report – Men’s O50s – Sunday 6 November 2016

Magpies Men’s O50s 3 Ipswich Men’s O50s 1

Harleston Magpies are through to the 3rd round of England Hockey Men’s Over 50’s Cup after this home win over old adversaries Ipswich. The teams were well matched in a goalless first half although Ipswich, with Chris Palmer prominent in midfield, had a goal disallowed for an infringement in the circle. They were then denied by two good saves by Andy Palmer in the Magpies’ goal. The home team took control of the game after the break when captain Jon Aldridge scored with a spectacular shot into the top corner of the Ipswich net. By now Ipswich were tiring and right midfielder David Blackmore put Magpies further ahead with a firm shot from the edge of the circle. Roger Kent made the game safe for Magpies after good work by Andy Caston. Ipswich pulled a goal back five minutes from time when the prolific Andy Cook converted a penalty corner. Magpies’ player-manager Peter Dolton unfortunately had to miss the game due to a family illness.
