Harleston Magpies mens 2s suffered their first home defeat in over 2 seasons at the hands of Wapping 1s who are top of the table.
The first half started at a frantic pace with both sides sharing equal possession but neither creating good chances. Wapping created the first chance when the ball broke to the Wapping forward at the edge of the ‘D’ but the Magpies defence forced the ball wide with good pressure. Magpies then started to press and play their simple game creating chances and forcing the Wapping keeper into some good saves. Despite Magpies being the more creative of the two sides it was Wapping who forced the Penalty Corner of the game, but their finishing was lacking as it was straight at the keeper. At the end of the first half the sides were still in deadlock with neither sides being able to find the opening goal.
In the second half Magpies fell behind after the ball at the top of the ‘D’ was not cleared and the Wapping forward buried the ball into the bottom corner leaving the keeper no chance. Once behind Magpies’ never restarted and found themselves 2-0 down from a penalty corner. Magpies found a way back into the game with 3 minutes to go when Ben Wright found space at the edge of the circle and fired home into the top corner from a tight angle, leaving the final few moments of the game frantic as Harleston pushed for the equalizer, whilst Wapping tried to put the game out of reach with their 3rd goal.
Man of the Match was Lawrence Baynes who was a key figure in everything good Magpies did today. With that defeat Magpies are now 3rd in Premier B 6 points behind leaders Wapping and 2 points behind Cambridge City. Next week Magpies travel to Long Sutton who are level on points with Magpies in 4th place on goal difference
