MINIS REPORT 7TH OCTOBER 2018

Minis U12 Dragons Tournament

The absence of key attacking players meant that this tournament was a chance to try out new positions, and the new look Girl’s Under 12s A team showed a willingness to improve and learn as the morning progressed.
Being drawn fifth in the five team pool meant the team had to wait a while before a tough match up against Norwich City A who already had one game under their belt.  The team withstood the early Norwich pressure well until a cross took an unlucky deflection off of a Magpie stick for an own goal.  Pressing for an equaliser Magpies left spaces at the back which allowed Norwich to confirm the win with a well taken breakaway goal just before the end.
Coach Nick’s pep talk on roles and positioning was taken on board and Magpies looked much more fluid in the next game against Watton.  Emily C started owning the Centre Mid role, her passes finding willing runners, Grace S and Florence C, down each flank.  Evie W and Flo C providing the finishing touches to well-crafted passing moves before a great solo effort from Dulcie S topped off a good 3 – 0 win.
Against Dragons, Magpies were more than a match defensively with Harriet S and Daisy W snuffing out attacks and launching the ball down each wing.  Again this was where Magpies put in most of their good work with Jessica S performing well in this energy sapping role. Frustratingly, chances were either hit wide or straight at the Dragons keeper and it took until the last minute before Evie W got the winning goal Magpies deserved.
The team looked somewhat off pace for their last game whilst Norwich City B still looked full of running.  Jasmine F in goal did a good job at her near post as the Norwich attackers repeatedly tried to run around the outside of the defence. In attack, Magpies couldn’t quite find their earlier fluidity and the game broke down into a scrappy 0-0 draw. Overall, there are many reasons to be optimistic for the season ahead and time on the training pitch will knit this group into a tougher unit.
