Report – Men’s O50s – Sunday 12 March 2017

Harleston Magpies Men’s O50s 1 Reading Men’s O50s 4

Magpies knew they were going to have a tough game against a younger Reading side including several former full internationals in this England Hockey Cup semi-final clash and so it proved. The home team included Jon Aldridge and Bob Skinner both defying injuries and they and the rest of the squad, including goalkeeper Andy Palmer who made some good saves, fought hard but class told in the end. Magpies were unable to retain possession unlike their opponents who scored two goals in each half before a second half consolation by Jon Wells. This defeat should take nothing away from Magpies who have once again had a good run in this event under team manager Peter Dolton. Reading, who beat Magpies in the 2015 final, now play Ben Rhydding.
