Ladies Weekend at Weybread
With the First teams away at Indoor the rest of the club resumed league action last weekend with every Ladies team bagging three points. The 2s headed to Lowestoft for their first game of the New Year and true to form came home with a win thanks to goals from Fran Burrell and Rose Winter, with Beth Farrow keeping a clean sheet on her debut for the side.
Laura Betts captained her 3rd team to a 1-0 victory over Norwich Dragons 2s with Alice Wiseman getting the only goal of the game. Sadly the team didn’t fare as well in their rearranged fixture against Bury St Edmunds on Sunday where, despite outstanding performances by Emma Tolhurst and Sophie Govier-Schaay in defence, Bury won the game 3-0.
With determination to turn around what has so far been a disappointing season, the Ladies 4s clung on for their first league points in a 2-1 win over Loddon. Julie Davy and Imogen Maynell Anderson providing the goals with Grace Robinson in fine form between the sticks to prevent a Loddon comeback. The Ladies 5s found themselves 3-0 up having only played 15 minutes thanks to a hat trick from the experienced Jose Tibbenham. Unable to put the game to bed Magpies sat back and allowed Diss to take it to 3-2. Beth Moodie extended the lead and, despite another Diss goal, it ended 4-2 to Magpies.
Back at the Nest the table topping Mens 2s were up against their club counterparts Magpies 3s who are currently 25 points behind them in the East Men’s League. Although the first half was evenly contested, and Dave Francis netted one for the thirds, the 2nds proved too strong with a convincing goal display from Martin Fields, Stuart Field, Robbie Kinsella, Matt Bensly, Lawrence Baynes (2) and Jake Sewell, final score 7-1.
Meanwhile in Kings Lynn the Men’s 4ths beat Pelicans 3-0 (Toby Hughes, 2, and Arthur Johnson), the Fifths drew at home 3-3 with Norwich Exiles and the Sixths lost to Bury 3-0.
