U10A Girls County Championships at Pelicans Sunday 5th March

U10A County Champs 2017

The U10A girls managed to continue their winning ways in the County Championship. In the opening match they beat Dereham 6-0 (Beth 6) which proved to be an excellent warm up for what we knew would be a tough game with Norwich City. In the City match, Harleston managed to score quite early but then had to soak up considerable pressure from a strong Norwich squad who made our defence work very hard, although our GK Rebekah was not called on to make any saves. Late in the game we scored another to put the game out of Norwich’s reach (Beth 2). The team were very relieved to then be able to head inside to try and warm up and dry off. Loaded up with hot chocolate, cookies and enough sweets to open a sweet shop the worry was whether anyone was then going to be able to run in the next game! Still raining and blowing a fiercely cold gale the intrepid team returned to the fray and were made to work very hard for a 2-0 win against Norwich Dragons (Beth, Natalie). The morning concluded with a fine team performance with everyone playing their part in a 7-0 win over Pelicans (Catherine, Daisy, Ophelia, Natalie and Beth 3). By now poor old Emily had retired to the clubhouse with hypothermia and many others were not far off that state as the conditions continued to deteriorate. Well done to everyone for a great team performance and we now have the Regional tournament to look forward to in April.
