U12 GIRLS DOMINATE AT WEYBREAD

With the U12 A Team competing in the Norfolk Champs at Pelicans, Magpies hosted a B / C team tournament in the wind and rain at Weybread. Please see below for match reports.

Magpies Red – Gold Tournament winners

The girls performed brilliantly on a morning when the tournament was hit by one of the worst spells of weather that any of us could have imagined! Braving the biting winds and heavy rain, the girls displayed a high level of commitment in each of their four matches.

First up we faced Norwich City Lions and the girls were soon into their stride with a quick goal by Hannah reacting quickly to a shot from Molly that the goalkeeper initially cleared. Without the efforts of their goalkeeper Norwich could have been beaten more heavily as the team spent most of the game camped in the opposition’s half.

Next we faced the first of our two matches against Norwich Dragons who perhaps lacked the experience of our girls and this was evident straight away as early pressure resulted in the first of the team’s goals. Seven further goals followed with all scorers being Ella (4), Maddie, Hannah, Georgia and Molly.

Our third game was the 2nd match against Norwich City Lions who were clearly determined to battle for a result in what was likely to be key match. They fought hard with no little skill and Magpies were clearly not having things their own way that they had enjoyed in their previous match. The all-important and ultimately decisive goal was scored by Hannah and the team deservedly ran out 1-0 winners.

Our last game was against Dragons who started the game keen to score their first goal of the tournament but this was always going to be difficult against a confident Magpies and Katie; in goal who despite not being called upon too much throughout the matches had already proved her value with a fine save against Norwich City. Another fine victory was to follow with scores by Hannah, Georgia and Ella (3).

A great morning’s work despite the weather with 4 victories, 15 goals and none conceded.

Magpies Blue – Silver Tournament runner up

Magpies Blue had most of the possession in all of the games, first one we drew 0-0, second one 0-0, third one we beat Norwich Dragons 1-0, the goal was scored by some excellent passing into the D and Ellie was found in front of the goal who slapped the ball in past the goalkeeper. The last game we unfortunately lost 1-0. Everyone played really well, and despite the weather was a good day!

Magpies White – Silver tournament winners
Strong start by Magpies Whites against Norwich Dragons. Led by captain Jade Bishop we were soon into the swing of things and passed the ball well. Sofia Chopra set up Ellen Moodie for the only goal of the game.
Next up we played the Magpies Blue team and the evenness of the teams was reflected in the 0-0 score line. Tilly Dodds worked really hard to keep out the attackers and Lily kept the goal safe with some good saves.
We then faced Norwich City Tigers and after numerous opportunities for Grace King and Amy Freeman upfront, Ellen scored again from Jade’s pass.
Last up we played Dragons for a second time and despite their determination, we played some lovely hockey, passing well between ourselves and calling for the ball. Ellen snuck her 3rd and 4th goals of the day past the Dragons ‘keeper which meant that we won the Silver Tournament.
Fantastic team spirit despite the miserable weather meant that we all left with smiles on our faces, well done girls.
