U14 GIRLS REPORT EH CHAMPIONSHIPS 4TH NOVEMBER 2018

U14 Girls v Ipswich W 7-1

The U14 girls began their Tier 1 EH campaign for this season at The Nest with a well deserved 7-1 victory over Ipswich. Magpies came out of the blocks strongly and dominated possession from the off but were guilty of running with the ball too much to the detriment of any width and so huffed and puffed a bit and got a little frustrated. The front players did however convert a full press error from Ipswich into an interception for Emma W on the 22 who duly smashed the ball into the back board, 1-0 Magpies and this was the half time score. Everything was working ok ish but at our half time chat we all agreed that run with it less, pass it more and keep the width was the recipe for the 2nd half. Evie B and Molly L moved to right back and right half and both had an excellent half of hockey and stuck to the recipe. Ella S was a constant nuisance for the Ipswich defence all day and was rewarded with a goal and two more followed for Anna C to put Magpies 4-0 up. A rare Ipswich attacked produced a short corner goal with a fortunate deflection doing the damage but that only spurred on Magpies with Anna C completing her hat trick and one a piece for Loulou F and Jess M to make the final score 7-1. We as coaches learnt plenty from this first match and hopefully the girls also will remember the recipe that produced some really good hockey in the second half and also six goals ! One down with two more games to go in the group stage starting with a trip to IES in two weeks.
