U18 Girls Match Report 15th October 2017

Girls U18 vs Norwich City U18 (Home (C) W 4-0)

Magpies U18 girls started the 2017/18 England hockey cup competition with a home tie against Norwich City.
In glorious sunshine Magpies found themselves 2-0 ahead inside the first 10 minutes with 2 powerfully struck goals from Mia King. The majority of the first half play was in the Norwich half and from a short corner Grace Cresswell added a 3rd.
When City did break into the Magpies D Alice Gooch was in brilliant form to deny the Norwich strikers.
Just before half time Magpies added a 4th when good work by Tor Findlay was  calmly finished by Anna Tighe. Half time 4-0.
Norwich started the second half as a more attacking threat. Good defending by Rose Winter, Charlotte Seaman, Grace Cresswell and Sophie Child meant there was no way through for City. On an energy sapping day the midfield of Olivia Locke, Alice Woollatt and Martha Lawrence put in a lot of hard work.
Magpies looked a constant threat of adding a 5th goal, but near misses and good goalkeeping denied Tor Findlay, Millie Preece, Mia King and Anna Tighe the chance to add to the first half score.
A positive result and performance with plenty to take forward into further rounds of the cup.
