The Magpies under 10 boys put on an good display in their first tournament of the season. With many boys playing for the first time it was tough to know what to expect up against potentially more experienced teams.
Magpies started against Watton and showed complete control of the game, pinning Watton back in their own half and forcing a lot of pressure. An Edward Brice hat-trick and an Ollie Mayhew short corner secured a strong opening 4-0 win.
Next up were Norwich Dragons. An early goal being conceded set the tone for the match. With Magpies pushing for an equaliser, gaps started to appear at the back giving Dragons the opportunity to score again. The score stayed at 2-0 thanks to Finn Smith in goal making some good saves.
Harleston played their best hockey in the 3rd game against Pelicans. A goal within 30 seconds from Sam Emms was followed by another 2 strikes for a well taken hat-trick. Elliott Chapman completed the scoring with a well deserved goal, after a strong run by Edward Brice. Good defending at the back by Tristan Kendall and Ollie Mayhew kept the Pelicans attack from scoring for a final score of 4-0.
The final match against Norwich City ended in a 2-0 win for Norwich. The lack of substitutes for Magpies showed as the side started to tire in a stretched game. However good play down the left by Kit Whitikar put Magpies close. Strong defence by an experienced Norwich side meant that Magpies were denied a goal that their possession and territory maybe deserved.
Overall Magpies finished 3rd out of the 5 teams. A very encouraging start to the season for a young team shows a lot of potential and are definitely a team to watch for tournaments to come.
