U 14 Girls v IES W 6-0

A beautiful sun splashed autumnal morning saw the U14 girls play their second Tier 1 group game away at IES. Having finished the previous game with good positive momentum we discussed the importance of learning from what worked well in the last game and am pleased to report that there were good periods in this game that were a pleasure to watch. The first half began and Magpies passed the ball about well and probed continually down both flanks with good work from Holly W and Emma W in particular and it was from such a surge down the left that the first two goals came with Jessica M slotting home on both occasions from quality cut backs. Very good work all round. Neat work in the D saw a goal on debut for Hollie D-R, big thumbs up and then a solid strike from Emma W saw the first half finish 4-0 Magpies. Just before half time we almost scored what would’ve been a contender for club goal of the season as an intricate series of one twos and runs from the halfway line ended in a shot that just shaved the wrong side of the post and drew gasps and oohs from the crowd. IES fought hard throughout and frustrated us a little in the second half and we did probably if we were honest with ourselves resort to running too much with it again and it was only when we started to pass it again that more chances were created with Anna benefitting once from open play and then again with a sweet short corner strike. The girls worked really hard throughout and produced a good amount of excellent team hockey and it was this that produced some really well worked goals. I must add that the IES keeper had a very busy day and made at least 10 decent saves, four of which were quite outstanding and kept the score down without doubt but this was still a convincing 6-0 victory for Magpies. We have a few weeks now to do some fine tuning before out final group game v Norwich City on February 4th.
