U 18 Girls v Chelmsford U18  (Away (EHC) W 5-3)

Today the U18 girls reached the quarter final of the England hockey National U18 girls Cup competition. They did this by beating Chelmsford 3-5 away.
Magpies had the better of the early play, putting Chelmsford under early pressure, Lauren Rowe won an early short Corner which went narrowly wide. Magpies were rewarded on 4 mins when Abby Gooderham scored to put Magpies 0-1 ahead. Magpies continued to play attacking hockey and forced several short corners, from which the Chelmsford keeper made excellent saves. On 20 mins Chelmsford drew level, this made Magpies rally together and after 25 mins excellent passing between Alice Woollatt and Tor Findlay resulted in Mia king finishing well to restore the lead. A 3rd goal after 29 mins was scored by Martha Lawrence to put Magpies 3-1 ahead at half time.
In the 1st minute of the 2nd half Chelmsford caught out Magpies and scored to make the score 2-3 and put Chelmsford back into the game. On 44 mins Chelmsford equalised for the 2nd time in the game to make it 3-3. The defence of Charlotte Seaman, Grace Cresswell and Sophie Child fought hard to keep the scores level whilst Alice Gooch made important saves. Magpies went 3-4 ahead on 56 mins when Abby Gooderham scored her 2nd goal with a well struck short corner. Magpies pushed forward looking for another goal and on 62 mins Lottie Summers added the 5th from just inside the D with a powerfully struck shot to make the final score 3-5 to Magpies.
This result puts Magpies into the quarter final on 11th March where they will meet Leicester Hockey Club.
