Harleston Magpies U12 Girls report

HARLESTON MAGPIES U12 GIRLS IN THE EAST FINALS

Harleston Magpies Under 12 Girls were fortunate to be in the Club East Finals having finished third in the Norfolk County Finals, although not finishing far behind Dereham and Norwich City. Two teams went through from each county in the East but as a Magpies team had won the East Finals last season Norfolk were allowed a third entry.

That is where Magpies luck ended as the teams were split into three sections and they were drawn against Essex No 1s (Old Loughtonians) Kent no1s (Canterbury) and Grasshoppers from Suffolk.

In the first game against Old Loughtonians Magpies went down 2-0 to a good side but they battled hard but found it difficult to create chances

In their next game against Grasshoppers Magpies won 5-0 with captain Kara Kilbourn scoring four goals and Eliza Bell scoring the other goal.

In their final match in their section Magpies were hoping to have learnt from their experience against Old Loughtonians but unfortunately Canterbury took the lead within a minute. From then on Magpies faced an uphill battle. Magpies did much better as an attacking force and had their moments. Unfortunately not playing to the whistle gave Canterbury a soft goal and they went on to win 4-0 although the score line was slightly flattering. Predictably Old Loughtonians and Canterbury went on to meet in the final at the end of the day.

In Magpies final two games they met the other teams who had finished third in their section.

Against Hertford Magpies won 2-0 with Kara Kilbourn scoring both goals. In their final game they beat Ipswich 3-0 scoring all their goals before half time. Verity Tomson and Eliza Bell scoed good goals by getting in at the far post and Kara Kilbourn scored the third goal.

This was a great experience for the Magpies team and the final two results emphasised what a tough group they were given. Their final position was 7th but if they had been in a kinder group they could have done even better.

Kara Kilbourn scored 7 goals and looked as good a forward as there was in the Tournament.
