Harleston Magpies hosted Norfolk’s second U12s In2Hockey tournament of the season on Sunday 11 November.  19 teams from across five Norfolk clubs took to the pitches to show off how much they have learned from their coaches over the last six weeks.
With the sun shining and spirits high, the teams took to the Magpies pitches completing 41 matches over the course of the morning. All 19 teams stopped play at 11am to pay their respects as part of Remembrance Sunday and the centenary of the Great War.  Shoulder to shoulder, the players joined together and shared a moment of reflection and thanks.
Then it was back to the action with matches to win, techniques to trial and goals to score. With the encouragement of family and friends, all teams produced some great performances. Harleston Magpies’ teams impressed across the girls and boys section.

The final results saw Magpies U12 boys and U12 girls declared champions in the gold tournament, albeit the boys did not have the final all their own way and had to share the title with Norwich City.  Whilst in the silver tournament, Magpies looked increasingly competitive, a fifth and joint second finish for Magpies girls and a third place finish for the boys. The final results were:

U12 Girls – Gold Tournament Winners Harleston Magpies

Runners Up Norwich City Tigers

U12 Girls – Silver Tournament Winners Watton

Runners Up Dragons B / Magpies Red

U12 Boys – Cup Winners Harleston Magpies / Norwich City

U12 Boys – Plate Winners Norwich City Sharks

Runners Up Watton

Heather Brand, Harleston Magpies Youth Chair commented: “These events take a huge amount of organising plus volunteers on match day to make sure the event runs smoothly. Thanks to all our club members and parents for making this a very successful event for all.  Getting nineteen teams of youngsters on the pitch and playing hockey was a great sight for everyone, showcasing the enthusiasm and strength of hockey across Norfolk.  For some, this was their first experience of tournament hockey, and they loved every moment!’
