HARLESTON MAGPIES U16 GIRLS REACH THE INDOOR NATIONAL SEMI FINALS
Harleston Magpies were off to a flying start in their opening match taking an early two goal lead against Leicester before running out with an impressive 5-1 win with goals from Abby Gooderham 2, Lottie Summers 2 and Tor Findlay. The perfect start to the Tournament. In their second match Magpies were ruthless against Taunton Vale with a great performance winning 8-0 with goals from Abby Gooderham 3, Tor Findlay 2, Anna Tighe, Lauren Rowe and Amelia Preece.
On Sunday morning Magpies arrived to play one of the favourites Surbiton knowing that Surbiton had scored a late equaliser against Leicester in their first match in the morning. Unfortunately Magpies had a rude awakening giving the opposition too much time and space and lost 6-0. Magpies had to recover from the impact of that result to make sure that they won their last match against York to qualify for the semi finals. Magpies took an early lead but York soon equalised to make it 1-1. Magpies squandered some chances but finally Lottie Summers scored a crucial goal and from then on Magpies finished 4-1 winners. (Abby 2, Lottie 2).
In the semi finals Magpies played Beeston the winners of the other section. A slow start by Magpies allowed Beeston an early 2-0 lead but then Magpies came back strongly. Magpies had the ball in the net but the umpire blew too soon and awarded a penalty corner. In the second half Abby pulled a goal back, another goal was disallowed when the umpire blew too soon and Magpies missed from a penalty flick. Beeston responded strongly and scored a third goal to make it 3-1 and kill off the game. On another day Magpies could have made the final.
Beeston went on to win the final against Surbiton 4-3.
