Womens 1s vs Surbiton W2

This week the Magpies women's 1st team took on Surbiton at home to try and win 3 points.

As the first whistle blows Magpies start will with some great link up play and forcing Surbiton to force the ball allowing the ladies to regain possession. Unfortunately Surbiton retaliated aggressively with a goal, making the score 0-1 at the end of the first quarter. However, the mighty Magpies did not give up, maintaining their aggressive press and performing some great link ups. The ladies win a short corner against Surbiton, which leads to an excellent headside deflection making the score 1-1 and all to play for. The women's first continue to apply even more pressure with a great deflected pass into the D, leading to a first time shot. However, the score remained 1-1, with a good save from the Surbiton goalie. Magpies even go one player down as someone receives a green card, but they defend strongly and finish the half well.

Early in the third quarter Magpies concede a short corner but keep the Surbiton attack out. After this the teams are relatively even, with both teams going through good periods of possession and both goalies making saves. After a tense third quarter the score remains 1-1. 

Going into the fourth quarter Magpies were still firing out and playing well. The ladies manage to get a shot on goal but the Surbiton goalie makes a good high save, denying Magpies a second goal. Tension rises as Surbiton go a man down after receiving a 10 minute yellow. However, despite being a man down the a hard slap into the D allows Surbuton a deflection on the near post, making the score 1-2. Magpies do not give up and keep pushing for a goal but unfortunately could not convert another goal to even the score. The final whistle blows. Score is 1-2 to Surbiton.
