Women's 1s Match Report 25.11.2023

This week Magpies women's 1st team set out on their final away game v Sevenoaks to try and secure 3 points in their last away game before the Christmas break. 

As the first whistle went magpies were put under pressure by Sevenoaks but they held on well taking breaks when Sevenoaks allowed them. A counter attack from the opposition found a white foot in the circle leading to a penalty corner. Sevenoaks were successful in their attack to break the 0-0 deadlock close to the quarter time whistle. 

The second quarter saw both teams follow the pattern of the first as both teams pushed to find the 2nd goal of the game, with fast breaks saved at both ends. As Magpies entered the second half they persisted, going up a gear with each attack starting the half well despite being 1-0 down. Both teams had even spells on the ball however Sevenoaks edged a further lead after a decision that lead to Magpies conceding from another penalty corner. 

Magpies moved into the final quarter 2-0 down. Both teams takes a feisty start to the final quarter leading to a few cards for both teams. The determined Magpies side played some great link up play leading to creation of a foul on Fran Bown at the top of the circle to win to a penalty corner. With an opportunity to get back in game Magpies successfully managed deflect the ball into the top of the net by Flic Williams. Magpies continued keep pushing forwards to try and find an equaliser as time began to run out. A heavy tackle on Fran Bown in the attacking 25 lead to a yellow card for the opposition and another penalty corner opportunity for magpies. Magpies were successful, as Jess Howland fired the ball across goal to find a Magpies stick deflect the ball above the keeper. With only a few minutes left in the game magpies held on to the ball, securing 1 point from the game! A very good game to watch and a well deserved point for Magpies!
