Mens 1s vs Norwich City M1

Mens 1s Match Report 01.10.23

Early in the season, derby day. Both clubs marked this game as soon as the fixtures were out. Two teams with losses to avenge from week 1.

As the teams warmed up, loud music playing, crowd appearing. Game day, derby day was here! The first quarter was a starting point for the teams to work each other out. Neither side giving way but starting to see some challenges go in both ways. The 1st quarter ended 0-0 with a Magpies PC blocked by Norwich. Quarter 2 saw much of the same but with more volume beginning to occur from the crowd and benches. Again no movement, ending the 1st half 0-0 with all to play for!

Quarter 3 saw goals. Magpies first of all with a PC executed, that fell off the post onto the defender leaving the umpire a stroke to award. Myles King stepped up and put the ball in the net to give the travelling fans and team a boost! Norwich didn’t lay down, and pushed to earn themselves more PCs. From one, they scored the equalizing goal 1-1. Magpies not to get outdone, went and earnt a PC themselves and converted again from Myles King, dually making it 2-1 in a game very much heating up with tackles on (and off) the ball! Cards appeared which to any fan of either club knew was inevitable in this game. What would the final quarter hold for the fans?

Well quarter 4 had the same, cards, on and off ball challenges and a good pace to the game when the teams wanted to play (around the cards). Clock ticking down and Magpies deemed to take the player out in the D and Norwich given a stroke (1-1 strokes for those keeping track). The Norwich player caught the ball in the hook and missed the target, greeted by a roar from the Magpies players and fans. Talking with a Norwich fan after, “I have not seen him ever miss a flick”. Magpies kept their heads and saw out the remainder of the match earning the first 3 points of the 23-24 season at the expense of Norwich.

Big thanks to the travelling fans for the support, to Norwich for the great game, and the match officials for keeping the game in check when it could have got very nasty. Next up for Magpies is two home games at the Nest, first up Nottingham Uni 2s on Sunday before Bedford coming to the Nest the week after.
